Wolverhampton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur combined XI – four Wolves players deserve inclusion

Wolverhampton Wanderers host Tottenham this weekend as they look to get back to winning ways, but who in Wolves’ side would get into Spurs’ starting XI?

Both teams go into the game on the back of defeats with Gary O’Neil’s side unable to overcome Sheffield United while nine-man Spurs lost 4-1 to Chelsea.

Saturday’s game at the Molineux will provide a different test for both sides as the hosts come up against a much-depleted Tottenham team.

However, with both sides having a decent start to the new Premier League season, we have put together a combined starting XI of the two sides.

Vicario has quickly become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since signing for Spurs in the summer.

Coming in from Empoli, the 27-year-old has been dominant between the sticks which has helped Spurs keep one of the tightest backlines in the league.

His performance on Monday against Chelsea truly showed the ability he has as he kept the hosts in the game until the 90th minute despite Spurs having nine men on the field.

RB – Nelson Semedo

The right-back has been one of Wolves’ best-performing players so far this season.

Since Gary O’Neil took charge, Semedo has transformed into a consistently reliable defender who has helped keep the right flank secure.

His form has kept former Spurs man Matt Doherty away from a consistent spot in the starting XI so far this campaign.

However, Spurs will likely be the 29-year-old’s toughest test so far as he looks to subdue their attacking threat.

CB – Cristian Romero

One of many players to improve massively since Postecoglou’s arrival, Romero has been a rock at the back for Spurs.

The centre-back has already put in multiple key performances this season. Their 1-0 away win to Luton as well as their 2-0 victory against Bournemouth really showed how good the 25-year-old is.

However, his red card against Chelsea means that he will be out for the Wolves game.

CB – Micky van de Ven

The Dutch defender is another new Spurs signing from the summer who has made an instant impact in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old quickly developed a great partnership with Romero which has helped transform Spurs into one of the most frightening teams to play in the division.

However, van der Ven will be out of the Wolves game as he was another player who fell victim to an injury in the Chelsea clash when he pulled his hamstring.

LB – Toti Gomes

The Portuguese defender has worked his way back into the side under O’Neil and hasn’t looked back since.

His performances at left-back have been outstanding and is easily one of the most underappreciated players at the club at the moment.

His pace and raw power can cause a problem for any opposition while his trickery and determination were on full show in the last home game.

His assist for Hwang Hee-Chan was excellent to get the equaliser against Newcastle which could prove to be a vital point come the end of the season.

CM – Pape Matar Sarr

A great defensive midfielder, the 21-year-old is another player who has become a key cog in Spurs’ success this season.

His defensive contribution has helped Tottenham hold onto precious leads in multiple games where otherwise, they might have had to settle for a draw.

He will no doubt be another key player that Wolves will have to watch.

CM – Yves Bissouma

Since signing from Brighton last season, Bissouma has quickly become one of Spurs’ star players.

The 27-year-old has dominated the middle of the park multiple times this season with performances against Man United and Brentford being particular highlights.

With Bissouma possessing multiple great qualities, Wolves will have to look to limit the midfielder in as many ways as possible.

CAM – James Maddison

The Englishman has been one of the signings of the season in the Premier League so far.

After signing from Leicester for a reported £40 million, the midfielder has been a catalyst for Postecoglou’s side as they shot up the table.

The 26-year-old has already netted three times this season as well as collected five assists with his form helping him to win the Premier League Player of the Month for August.

However, luckily for Wolves, Maddison will be out with an injury for Saturday’s clash.

RW – Pedro Neto

Neto has easily been Wolves’ best player this season.

The winger has been dominant in almost every game he has played in so far with eye-catching performances now becoming the norm for the 23-year-old.

His form even saw him nominated for two Premier League Player of the Month awards in September and October.

With the winger out for the foreseeable future after an injury against Newcastle, he will no doubt be a miss for Wolves against Spurs on Saturday.

ST – Son Heung-min

Spurs’ main man. The South Korean is back to his best this season as he leads the Tottenham front line.

Despite losing captain Harry Kane to Bayern in the summer, Spurs fans haven’t had to worry about the goal front with Son stepping up to the challenge.

There is little the 31-year-old can’t do with him already netting eight league goals this season, the second-best tally in the Premier League.

If Wolves are to get anything on Saturday, stopping Son will be the key to their success.

LW – Hwang Hee-Chan

The South Korean international has been on fire so far this season.

The 27-year-old is one of the top scorers in the Premier League to date with six netted goals, including five in his last eight games.

His form has been widely praised by players and pundits alike as his eye for goal has carried Wolves away from any immediate threat of a relegation battle.

Against Spurs, Hwang’s form will definitely be a key factor if Wolves are to take anything from the game.
