Winners and losers of Wolves sacking Vitor Pereira including Andre, Munetsi and Fosun

Wolves have sacked Vitor Pereira as head coach this morning, as the hierarchy finally concluded his position had become untenable.

Vitor Pereira has bitten the dust after getting just two points from 10 games this season, and having not overseen a victory in the Premier League since April.

Pereira got off to an amazing start at Wolves, keeping the club in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season.

But it’s all unravelled in spectacular fashion, and the Portuguese has now been relieved of his duties following yesterday’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham.

Molineux News now looks at some of the winners and losers of this development.

Winners

Joao Gomes and Andre

Andre and Joao Gomes were dropped to the bench against Fulham, which enraged supporters. They were probably furious themselves.

Wolves need these two in the starting XI every game. The fact that they’ve both missed games this season has been greatly concerning.

But now with Pereira gone, they will surely be reinstated and kept in that starting XI, as the clear standout players in this team.

Andre in particular could be a big winner of the decision. He has been slightly more under-used than Gomes, but a new man at the helm will hopefully build around him.

Wolves

It is the right decision for the football club.

Ultimately, Wolves are in a huge mess and Pereira has played a big part in that. There are, of course, problems at the club that run far deeper than Pereira.

But he has to accept that he failed spectacularly this season and over the last few weeks, the feeling for many has changed in a big way.

Supporters were still chanting in support of him around a month ago. But the scenes after the defeat to Burnley felt very telling, and then again after Fulham there was a feeling that most fans had had enough.

He was making far too many decisions, and still not having a team identity at this point in the season is very worrying.

Losers

Marshall Munetsi

It has been no secret that Pereira was massively fond of Marshall Munetsi.

The midfielder was often picked by Pereira for his relentless running and pressing. But plenty of Wolves fans have felt that these things alone were never enough to justify his starter status.

Munetsi covers a lot of ground. But there is nothing in the way of creativity and his passing leaves a lot to be desired.

With Pereira now gone, Munetsi’s time as a regular could be in jeopardy, as a new manager could place more emphasis on creativity and technical quality, which is not something he’s about.

Fosun

It’s such a poor look for Fosun.

In September they signed off on a new deal for Pereira, convinced he was the right man to take the club forward.

They gave him that contract as a reward for the work he did last season in keeping the club in the Premier League.

But the timing of it was horrendous given how much Wolves were struggling, and the stability they hoped the decision would create never came.

If anything, Fosun have only thrust themselves into the spotlight, and their reputation is at an all-time low.

One gets the feeling the pressure could now really crank up on them following this sorry situation.
