Winners and losers from Wolves’ pre-season, featuring Toti Gomes and a regrettable inclusion

As pre-season ends and the Premier League season approaches fast, it’s a good time to reflect on Wolves’ 2025 pre-season and who will be feeling good, and not so good, about the summer so far.

Wolves failed to register a single win during pre-season, and have brought in just four players, while 13 have exited the club.

This has caused Wolves’ fans to react quite negatively, and the Fosun ownership’s popularity is quite low.

But some players have made the most of the past few weeks despite all the noise.

Winners from Wolves’ pre-season

Fer Lopez

The biggest winner is actually a new face at Molineux. After arriving from Celta Vigo for £19.5 million, Fer Lopez has been a shining light in Wolves’ murky pre-season, looking like a real creative spark and earning the praise of Vitor Pereira.

At just 21, it may have been assumed that Lopez is a player for the future, but his first few performances suggest he is more than capable of starting in Vitor Pereira’s new-look attack.

Sasa Kalajdzic

Austrian target man Sasa Kalajdzic has impressed Wolves fans this pre-season, suggesting he might not be a lost cause despite being gone for so long.

Kalajdzic has attracted interest from Italy, but given Wolves’ striker shortage, the idea of the 28-year-old sticking around for another season at least has emerged as a real possibility.

Toti Gomes

After donning the armband on a handful of occasions this summer, Toti Gomes looks like the obvious captaincy choice heading into the new season.

Wolves’ defence as a whole has looked disorganised and far too open at times, but Toti hasn’t been the root cause.

Voted most underrated at the club by his teammates, Toti has shown over the past few seasons that he is a player to be relied upon. His relationship with David Moller Wolfe on the left hand side has looked exciting and is something to look out for in the new campaign.

Losers from Wolves’ pre-season

Ki-Jana Hoever

The first name on the loser list could have made the winners side just a couple of weeks ago. Ki-Jana Hoever’s strong start to pre-season led many to speculate about putting the Dutchman in the starting lineup this season.

But the fall was even quicker than the rise, with a pair of unconvincing performances leading fans to criticise Hoever and criticise him heavily.

Now, the right wing-back position is open again and in need of sorting out.

Emmanuel Agbadou

Following his arrival at the club in January, Emmanuel Agbadou was one of Wolves’ best players last season. His presence defensively coincided with a serious upturn in form from Wolves, something fans will know is no coincidence.

However, in pre-season, Agbadou has been less than convincing. Vitor Pereira hasn’t been shy about calling out the Ivorian’s drop in quality, no doubt desperate for him to get back to his best for the season.

Vitor Pereira

And now we arrive at the regrettable inclusion. Vitor Pereira has to be on this list, but not due to his own actions.

Pereira simply hasn’t been given the level of investment he needs to achieve his goal of European qualification, signing just four players despite 13 exits.

Fosun have taken the brunt of the criticism from fans, and rightly so, but it’s Pereira who will inevitably come out the loser should Wolves crash and burn this season.
