Winners and losers from Wolves’ 1-0 defeat to Newcastle including Vitor Pereira

It could be hard to have any positives from a defeat, but Wolves did have some winners in their 1-0 loss to Newcastle.

Nick Woltemade’s first-half header was all that could separate the sides, as the Old Gold lost all opening four games of a league season for the first time in their history.

It is another record of unwanted history that they have set this campaign so far.

Vitor Pereira has been remaining positive, sending a message to fans, but relegation is looking all the likelier now.

Here are two winners and two losers from Wolves’ loss to Newcastle United.

Winners for Wolves from Newcastle loss

Ladislav Krejci

Ladislav Krejci’s performance has been receiving praise from Wolves fans, so the Czech is no doubt a big winner from the defeat.

The new arrival made his debut for the club, starting in midfield, which is something he has not done for a while.

However, it showcases his versatility, and that is something Vitor Pereira is excited about.

Krejci has been getting to know his teammates, and he said he already feels they are putting the hard work in to get results.

If the Czech can use the Newcastle game as a base to improve on, he’ll no doubt be a major success for the Old Gold.

Hugo Bueno

When Jackson Tchatchoua joined Wolves, it was expected that the Cameroonian would be the starting right wing-back; however, Hugo Bueno has challenged that expectation.

Not typically a right-sided player, Bueno started as the right wing-back against Newcastle and impressed in that role.

Bueno was not part of Pereira’s squad last season after being sent on loan by Gary O’Neil, and this season, he has so far been proving himself capable at this level.

The Spaniard is leading multiple stats for Wolves, including chances created.

Against Newcastle, he extended his lead, creating more chances (2) than any other Wolves player on the day.

With the Old Gold struggling to create, it is a nice option for Vitor Pereira to have, and one he probably did not expect.

Losers for Wolves from Newcastle loss

Vitor Pereira

Vitor Pereira is no doubt under immense pressure at Wolves. They sit bottom of the league after four games and have zero points.

While Pereira is not a loser for how he set Wolves up against Newcastle, he has been chosen because of his substitution choices.

For example, the introduction of Fer Lopez should have been made much sooner, and bringing on Marshall Munetsi before Lopez was not a popular choice.

The next match against Leeds United is crucial, and Pereira needs to pick up all three points in that game.

Perhaps if chasing a win, more positive subs would be the right choice in this one.

Emmanuel Agbadou

Although it may have been a better showing than previous matches, Emmanuel Agbadou did not cover himself in glory for Woltemade’s header.

The Ivorian misjudged the direction of the ball, and ultimately let the German have a free header at goal.

There is a little bit of sympathy considering the cross from Jacob Murphy was excellent and that the Newcastle forward is two inches taller than Agbadou.

However, if this was last season, Wolves fans would have expected the defender to deal with it better, and that same expectation should still remain despite his poor form.
