Winners and losers from Jhon Arias’ transfer to Wolves include £12.8m player and Vitor Pereira

The long wait for Wolves to make their second signing of the summer transfer window is coming to an end, as Jhon Arias closes in on a switch to Molineux.

After successful negotiations with Fluminense last week, Wolves agreed a £19m transfer for Jhon Arias, who impressed scouts following his exceptional Club World Cup campaign.

Arias is undergoing a medical before sealing his ‘dream’ move to the Premier League, becoming Vitor Pereira’s replacement for Matheus Cunha.

Wolves fans are excited about the 27-year-old’s arrival and are hoping he can fill the void Cunha has left behind in the number 10 position.

So, with all that said, here are the winners and losers once the transfer is completed.

Winners from Jhon Arias’ transfer to Wolves

Jorgen Strand Larsen

A top striker always needs a creative source to support them in attack, and that is why Jorgen Strand Larsen will be pleased with the addition of Arias.

The Colombian has recorded 13 assists in all competitions so far in 2025, and the diminutive winger can produce moments of quality for the Norwegian to feast at Wolves.

Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in his debut campaign in the Premier League, with the incoming Arias surely improving his chances of bettering that total.

Vitor Pereira

Pereira has had the joy of working with South American talent at Wolves, most notably Cunha, Andre and Joao Gomes.

But he will also relish managing Arias, who will bring a high level of pressing intensity out of possession as well as incredible quality on the ball.

Arias is already becoming a fan favourite at Wolves by how he’s handled himself during the transfer saga, and for that reason, Pereira will already have a soft spot for the attacker.

Andre

Last summer, Wolves captured Andre from Fluminense, repeating that trick with the addition of Arias in 2025.

The Brazilian midfielder played alongside the Colombian at Fluminense and will be delighted that his former teammate is reuniting with him.

Arias has already praised Andre before being officially announced as a Wolves player, and the connection the duo can develop on the pitch is mouth-watering.

Losers from Jhon Arias’ transfer to Wolves

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde

Arias predominantly plays as a right winger for Fluminense but for Wolves, he’s likely to operate as a right-sided number 10.

That is why Jean-Ricner Bellegarde will fear for his position in the starting lineup, with the Frenchman needing to battle more competition for a place in the side.

Wolves already signed Fer Lopez as an option for the number 10 role, and now that Arias is joining, the options are looking stacked.

Bellegarde can also play as a central midfielder, but with Gomes and Andre locking down that spot, the £12.8 million ace could struggle to start in 2025/26.

Goncalo Guedes

Goncalo Guedes’ struggles at Wolves continued in 2024/25 as the Portuguese forward only started 10 times in the Premier League.

Guedes was often utilised on the right side of attacking midfield, a position Arias will be looking to nail down once he joins.

So, with Guedes being linked to Besiktas and other clubs so far this summer, it is highly likely that Arias’ arrival will push him closer to the exit door.
