Why Wolves fans should remain optimistic, despite zero wins in seven Premier League games

Many Wolves fans are very concerned at the moment after seeing their side take just one point from a possible 21 in the Premier League.

It was always going to be a difficult opening to the 2024/25 campaign.

As soon as the fixtures list was released, Wolves fans catastrophised on social media.

It has very much gone the way most expected, although some did expect Wolves to be slightly higher than bottom.

But Wolves are certainly in a predicament right now.

That said, Fosun are prepared to back Gary O’Neil for a bit longer, believing he has the potential to turn things around.

It’s all a bit doom and gloom at the moment, but Molineux News feels there are a few reasons for fans to remain optimistic.

Easier fixtures coming up

The most obvious reason for fans to remain optimistic is that the fixtures list will soon relent.

There are two more difficult games coming up in the form of Manchester City at home and then Brighton away.

But after that, it’s Crystal Palace, Southampton, Fulham and Bournemouth in what is undoubtedly a far more favorable run.

Of course, there are no ‘easy’ games in the Premier League.

But those four games are very presentable opportunities to get points on the board. It is paramount that Gary O’Neil wins at least two of those matches.

Wolves are scoring goals

It’s been clear where the main issue lies this season. Up to now, Wolves have conceded 21 goals in the Premier League which is unacceptable.

The defending has been shocking at times and O’Neil simply must find a way to solidify the backline. Steve Bull has urged Wolves to set up with a back three, and that’s an opinion many now share.

But at least Wolves are actually scoring goals and have looked threatening in the final third at times.

Wolves have scored nine goals in the league, which is actually more than eight other sides.

Forwards Jorgen Strand Larsen and Matheus Cunha have both been in the goals and look to have a good partnership going on.

Needless to say, Wolves will need to continue finding the back of the net if they are to start climbing the table. It’s just whether the defence can ensure the attackers’ contributions won’t go to waste.

O’Neil still has the faith of the players

When a football team is losing games week in week out, morale can take a huge hit.

It can then become very easy for a manager to lose their dressing room, and for things to completely unravel.

But there has been no real sign of that in recent weeks. Yes, we saw Mario Lemina react very emotionally after losing to Liverpool recently.

But the captain recently came out and defended O’Neil from criticism he’s been getting and it’s likely he speaks for the whole squad.

Pundit Nedum Onuoha has also claimed the Wolves players still back O’Neil, and this is massively important in the context of turning things around.

The second O’Neil loses those players, it’s over for him.
