Why recent Rennes results should clear Wolves from relegation predictions

As the Premier League season draws closer, many expert predictions have placed Wolves in the bottom three and therefore set for relegation.

This in large is due to the FFP and transfers situation currently impacting Wolves’ ability to operate in the market.

This situation has also left Julen Lopetegui reportedly on the verge of quitting the Molineux.

The situation is said to be so perilous that Wolves have began searching for alternative managers, for the event that Lopetegui leaves.

Due to all of this, many have tipped Wolves to go down, but recent results could suggest the experts have it wrong.

Why predictors have it wrong

The amount of people tipping Wolves for relegation is substantial, including names like Michael Owen.

This however is hugely wrong and recent results could suggest that Wolves are better place than multiple sides.

Using Rennes as the benchmark, they have played three bottom half Premier League sides in recent weeks.

The Ligue 1 side first beat West Ham 3-1 on July 29th before going on to batter Nottingham Forest 5-0.

These in comparison to Wolves’ 3-1 victory on Saturday make Old Gold look far and away the better side.

While this isn’t exact it is some food for thought.

How could Wolves start the season

Within their first five games, Wolves face three of last years top six.

They kick-start the season away to United before welcoming Brighton to the Molineux.

They then face Everton at Goodison and Palace at Selhurst Park before they face Liverpool at home after the international break.

With a realistic view, seven points from these fixtures would be a great return.

Especially with multiple difficult teams out of the way, they could then fancy their chances of pushing on against somewhat weaker teams.
