Why Mario Lemina could be Wolves’ most important player vs Forest

Wolves are taking on Nottingham Forest this weekend – and Mario Lemina having a good performance could be absolutely crucial.

Julen Lopetegui needs a win on Saturday after losing to Newcastle United and Leeds United.

Wanderers have had good chances to pull clear of the relegation zone recently.

But the club sit just three points above the drop, making this game against the Reds absolutely huge.

Forest are in poor form – Steve Cooper’s men are winless in their last six Premier League games. Four of those have been defeats.

But they will undoubtedly be well up for this game, especially given the fact there has already been two tasty clashes between the two sides this season.

One man who will be pretty nailed on to start for Wolves is Lemina, who has been superb since he signed in January.

He’s mostly been operating as a holding midfielder, allowing Ruben Neves to play a bit further forward.

The Gabon international could be particularly important this weekend. Because Forest are likely to play Morgan Gibbs-White either as a number 10 or an inside winger.

Gibbs-White is perhaps Forest’s most influential player.

Key to getting something from this game is keeping him quiet.

And Lemina is certainly the man for that job.

Mario Lemina must keep Morgan Gibbs-White quiet, just as he did with Harry Kane

A few weeks ago, Wolves beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

In the first-half of that game, Lemina executed an absolutely superb man-marking mission on Harry Kane, rendering the England captain completely ineffective.

Kane was dropping deep into those number 10 positions.

Gibbs-White is likely to take up similar positions to Kane, so Lopetegui may well instruct the £10 million enforcer to carry out a similar job.

Wolves fans will hope that if that is the plan, then Lemina comes through with a top display.

Many were annoyed by Gibbs-White’s behaviour during and after the penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup clash, and do not want to see him having any kind of impact for Forest on Saturday.
