Why Gary O’Neil should now unleash rarely-used £90k-a-week Wolves star v Burnley

Wolves face Burnley at Molineux on Tuesday night, and it’s possible there’s one player Gary O’Neil is strongly considering starting – Pablo Sarabia.

Wanderers are looking to bounce back after losing again at the weekend. The defeat to Arsenal was expected by many and in all honestly, it could have been worse than 2-1.

This game with Burnley is more of a better opportunity for points, even if the Clarets did just thump Sheffield United 5-0.

The game is at Molineux under the lights, and such matches always get the fans right up for it.

O’Neil will currently be working out how best to set up, and it may be that Pablo Sarabia now comes back into the starting XI.

Sarabia enjoyed his biggest high in a Wolves shirt before the last international break with his amazing cameo against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Spaniard came on for the closing stages at Molineux and produced one of the goals of the season, and also set up the winner for Mario Lemina.

It was a decisive impact, from a player O’Neil suggested had ‘put in an unbelievable shift’ in training leading up to the game.

Sarabia then did not see any minutes against Fulham on Monday night, which appeared to frustrate him. He apparently replied to a fan on Instagram who had questioned why he had not played against the Cottagers.

O’Neil spoke to the player, who apologised for expressing his frustrations. Apparently, the intention had been to put Sarabia on against Fulham, but then Hwang Hee-chan scored a penalty for Wolves.

Unlike against Fulham, £90,000-a-week ace Sarabia did feature against Arsenal, replacing Jean-Ricner Bellegarde just after the hour mark.

His entry into the action prompted an improvement in Wolves, and it just feels like he is now due a start.

His last came against Crystal Palace on September 3, which is surprising considering the calibre of player he is and the experience he has.

It’s a quick turnaround for Wolves and rotation may been needed and Sarabia really ought to be the first player O’Neil thinks about bringing in.

He’ll be hungry to build on that Tottenham cameo in the form of a start, and his creativity could help pick the Burnley lock.
