Why Fosun will be secretly concerned by what Gary O’Neil is doing to ‘unbelievable’ Wolves star

Wolves finally earned their first three points of the season, leaving it until match day 11 to do so.

Things have been bleak for Gary O’Neil’s side this term, recording a winless streak right up until their clash with Southampton.

On week 11, Wolves beat the Saints 2-0 at Molineux to go within just one point of safety, moving off the bottom of the table.

It was a must win game for the Old Gold however, the struggle is not over, with O’Neil’s incredibly talented squad still massively underperforming.

Gary O’Neil’s handling of Andre is a concern

Given how much star talent Wolves currently have, it’s bewildering that the Midlands side are even in the position they are in right now.

The problems haven’t just been this term, with the Old Gold on a run of two wins from their last 21 Premier League games as last season ended terribly.

In the summer, O’Neil pushed to get his squad kitted out in the transfer window, welcoming a host of talent, with very few as admirable as deadline day signing Andre

The 23-year-old made the move from Fluminense to Wolves and showed exactly why Matt Hobbs insisted on sealing a deal for the midfielder, shining in his early Premier League appearances.

What’s puzzling is that since O’Neil substituted Andre against Manchester City, the Brazilian has only played one minute, which is concerning.

A talent described as ‘unbelievable’ by South American football expert Nathan Joyes, Andre is a Brazil international who should be above the likes of Mario Lemina in the pecking order, but the manager thinks otherwise.

It’s a concern for Wolves for reasons aside from the attributes that Andre can offer on the pitch, with a look to the future necessary.

Wolves must be wary of Andre’s development

It was Wolves who landed Andre, but Hobbs wasn’t the only interested party when it came to the midfielder.

Fulham almost signed the 23-year-old, while Liverpool were turned away from capturing the Brazilian in 2023 as Fluminense wanted the Wolves ace to finish the season in his homeland, via Liverpool Echo

Wolves didn’t necessarily need Andre in the summer however, the opportunity to sign and develop the young talent was surely recognised as a source of profit for Fosun.

Getting the best of the summer signing and moving him on for a higher price is a possibility although that would only come if O’Neil gives the star a platform to impress.

Starving the upcoming talent of minutes to accommodate out of form players such as Lemina is detrimental to the player’s development and possibly, the future profit that Wolves could squeeze from him.
