What Pedro Neto replacement target did better than Martin Odegaard will excite Wolves fans

Wolves are on the hunt to find a Pedro Neto replacement before transfer deadline day, with one target identified.

Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs sanctioned Neto’s £54m transfer to Chelsea to close the winger’s five-year association with Wolves

It was understood that this summer was the right time for the 24-year-old to leave, with the Blues’ offer simply too good for the Old Gold to refuse.

Now, the search is on for the club to identify a worthy replacement for Neto before deadline day, despite Wolves being on a budget.

Wolves target Calvin Stengs as a Pedro Neto replacement

Wolves are eyeing Ajax ace Carlos Forbs as a possible target to bolster O’Neil’s options on the flank, with another Eredivisie talent said to be catching the club’s eye.

According to journalist Graeme Bailey, the Old Gold have ‘asked about’ Feyenoord attacker Calvin Stengs.

The 25-year-old is primarily deployed as an attacking midfielder however, he has grown to become a deadly force on the right flank since making the move to Feyenoord last summer.

There may be some difficulty in signing Stengs this summer, as the Dutchman recently made his desire to remain at Feyenoord known in an interview with De Telegraaf, but nothing can be ruled out.

Stengs is an exciting target for Wolves

The Wolves target was called a “terrific talent” by U23 scout Antonio Mango during his time at OGC Nice.

Since signing for Feyenoord, Stengs has set the Eredivisie alight with his form in attack, contributing to a staggering 26 goals in all competitions in 2023/24.

One of the most proficient parts of the Netherlands international’s game is his creativity, highlighted by the 18 assists he secured last term.

The Wolves target’s per 90 statistics further reflect his playmaking ability, as he actually outperformed one of the Premier League’s top creators last season.

As per FBref, Stengs averaged 3.05 key passes per 90 in the Eredivisie, a higher average than Arsenal star Martin Odegaard, who recorded 2.97 per 90 in the Premier League.

Considering that the Arsenal captain was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for his efforts last campaign, Stengs is operating at a spectacularly high level.

It would be exciting to see the Dutchman arrive at Wolves this summer, with his creativity something that many would like to see installed at Molineux.
