Pedro Neto impressed for Portugal against Czech Republic in Euro 2024 opener
After a season disrupted by injury, Neto was overjoyed to learn of his call up to the Portugal squad for the Euros.
Agonisingly, the Wolves winger had to wait until the 90th minute to get involved in the action, entering the field of play when his nation were drawing 1-1 with Czech Republic.
Neto then dazzled many as some intricate wide play saw him dash in-field before putting the ball on a plate for Francisco Conceicao to score the 92nd minute winner.
In the moments he played, the 24-year-old had six touches of the ball, completed one decisive dribble and won two ground duels, via Sofascore, hinting that his starting position as a substitute may soon change.
Neto’s short cameo will be encouraging for not only the winger and for Roberto Martinez, but for those back at Molineux too.
Neto performances at the Euros will be crucial for Wolves
Taking to X to react to the Wolves star’s performance, analyst Ben Mattinson described the forward as ‘inevitable’, adding that he has ‘literally everything’ a club would need.
Wolves won’t only want to see Neto thrive for the person and player that he is, but for the possible profit a future sale could see the club earn.
Currently, Wolves are said to value their number seven at £60m, with their transfer stance clear that they will not stop the Portuguese ace from leaving.
If Neto’s performances at the Euros continue at the standard of his opening display, the Old Gold could find themselves not only receiving multiple offers, but could even increase their asking price.
Securing a sizeable fee for the wide player could determine the limits that O’Neil can improve his Wolves squad this summer in the transfer window, with funds needed for a rebuild.
At 24, it’s fundamental that Neto has a successful tournament ahead of the 2024/25 season, with now being the optimum time for Wolves to offload their diamond for maximum profit.
