Wolves are preparing for a tough Premier League match against tabletoppers Liverpool. The Old Gold will travel to Merseyside this weekend.
Vitor Pereira’s men will come into Sunday’s clash at Anfield in good form. Wolves have won their last two matches, including a vital 2-0 Midlands Derby win over rivals Aston Villa nearly two weeks ago.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have lost their momentum.
Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
1 | 23 | 17 | 5 | 1 | 56 | 21 | 35 | 56 | |
2 | 24 | 14 | 8 | 2 | 49 | 22 | 27 | 50 | |
3 | 24 | 14 | 5 | 5 | 40 | 27 | 13 | 47 | |
4 | 24 | 12 | 7 | 5 | 47 | 31 | 16 | 43 |
Despite being at the top of the Premier League table, six points clear with a game in hand, Liverpool have just suffered an humiliating FA Cup Fourth Round defeat.
Although they travelled to the south coast as the clear favourites for Sunday’s cup tie, the Reds were beaten 1-0 by Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.

Liverpool’s next run of games could force Arne Slot to rotate squad for Wolves clash
Arne Slot’s heavily rotated his squad against Argyle, and even though that decision has drawn criticism, the Liverpool boss could be forced to take the same approach against Wolves as he battles with fixture congestion.
Liverpool’s next five games include hosting Wolves at Anfield on the 16th of February. The clash comes just four days after the re-arranged Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool’s Next Five Premier League Fixtures:
- Feb 12: Everton
- Feb 16: Wolves
- Feb 19: Aston Villa
- Feb 23: Man City
- Feb 26: Newcastle
After their match against Wolves, Liverpool will have to play Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United — all sides in the top eight — meaning rotating for the Wolves fixture is the one which would make the most sense.
Liverpool’s need to play five games in just 14 days could see Slot forced into making several changes, just like he did against Argyle.
Wolves must take inspiration from Plymouth Argyle’s FA Cup upset
Plymouth Argyle’s win will go down in the FA Cup history books, and Wolves must attempt to pull off the same upset.
Statistic | Plymouth Argyle | Liverpool |
Possession | 25% | 75% |
Passes | 192 | 595 |
Big chances | 1 | 2 |
Total shots | 10 | 14 |
Corners | 4 | 7 |
Fouls | 9 | 7 |
Tackles | 26 | 11 |
Although the Old Gold won’t be quite as big underdogs as what Miron Muslic’s side were last weekend, Pereira will know the odds will still be very much stacked against him and the Wolves first team.
However, taking inspiration from Argyle’s physicality and determination, Wolves will do well to copy The Greens’ masterclass, which saw them put on superb defensive display while being clinical at the other end.
Should Slot do what he is likely and make at least a handful of changes, Wolves will be even better placed to take something away from Merseyside.
Liverpool’s game against Wolves, which takes place at Anfield on Sunday, is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. (UK time) and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
