Wolves’ squad could look vastly different based on the action that’s unfolded this week, giving Gary O’Neil plenty to think about.
The focus at Compton right now is the summer transfer window as Deadline Day fast approaches.
O’Neil and Matt Hobbs are busy at work to get the necessary deals over the line, with several moves poised to happen before Friday night.
Amid all of the transfer hysteria, Wolves progressed in the Carabao Cup, beating Burnley 2–0 at Molineux which might have swayed the boss’ objectives in the market.

Players who could impact Wolves’ best XI this week
Starting with the Burnley victory, two players in particular made a claim to be considered in O’Neil’s lineup in the near future.
One of which is Daniel Podence, who could significantly bolster Wolves’ right-hand side in the absence of Pedro Neto, showing superb quality and maturity in the side against the Clarets.
The same can be said about Goncalo Guedes, who was eyeing redemption at Molineux, scoring a match-winning brace and taking his two goals with great confidence.
While the 27-year-old may not have done enough just yet to usurp Jorgen Strand Larsen, he could certainly give the manager something to think about when selecting his next starting XI.

Moving to players who could bolster the XI from the transfer market, Wolves striking a deal with Andre could be huge for O’Neil’s midfield.
It’s unlikely that captain Mario Lemina would be dropped however, the Gabon international may stand in the way of the boss unleashing an all-Brazilian engine room by combining Andre and Joao Gomes.
Wolves have also been linked to Nayef Aguerd, who could sign on loan from West Ham. The centre-back would restore the experience lost in Max Kilman and has the potential to compete with Toti Gomes.
Competition could finally be possible at Wolves
One of O’Neil’s best qualities is that he is a manager who rewards form, with no player’s starting position guaranteed.
Such was evident last season with his management of Gomes, making for an interesting season if form continues for those who impressed last night and for those set to arrive at Molineux.
It will be fascinating to see what deals Wolves manage to get over the line before Friday night’s deadline, with it a relief to consider the possibility of having stronger depth in several positions in the squad.
