What Arsenal are now planning to do after Matheus Cunha pursuit – it’s great news for Wolves

Wolves fans face an anxious wait between now and the end of the transfer window as Matheus Cunha could still leave Molineux.

While Vitor Pereira wants three more signings through the door, the Portuguese boss will have one eye on the future of Cunha.

The Brazilian has plundered 10 Premier League goals this term, which propels him towards some of the league’s elite attackers.

As many as six Premier League clubs have shown an interest in Cunha ahead of the deadline, but Wolves want at least £80m for Cunha.

In the January transfer window, clubs don’t normally flex their transfer muscles and the inflated asking price for the 25-year-old has now warned off Arsenal.

Arsenal now want Ollie Watkins after ending Matheus Cunha pursuit

It emerged in December that Arsenal were huge admirers of Cunha and wanted to lure him to the Emirates in January.

Kai Havertz is the Gunners top scorer with eight in the Premier League, with Mikel Arteta perhaps seeing the Wolves superstar as a genuine option to lead the line instead.

However, with Wolves wanting to hand Cunha a contract and placing a huge asking price on his head in the process, Arsenal have now moved on to other targets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League title-chasers have seen a £60 million bid rejected for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

While the Gunners’ ambition can’t be knocked, they’re going to encounter a similar problem to the Cunha deal as manager Unai Emery is adamant about keeping Watkins.

This concerns Wolves because Arsenal moving on to other targets suggests they’ve ended their pursuit for Cunha, putting the Old Gold one step closer to keeping him.

Vitor Pereira’s stance on selling Matheus Cunha

Although Cunha’s work rate was questioned against Arsenal, perhaps looking like a player who wanted to leave, Pereira’s stance on the forward suggests he’s happy to stay.

Speaking ahead of the defeat to Arsenal last week, the Portuguese boss revealed that Cunha is committed to Wolves.

“He knows what I want from him, we had a conversation and it’s sorted. He’s ready to help the team,” he told reporters.

The Wolves manager also said he doesn’t know if any rival clubs have put an offer on the table but once again reiterated the South American is not for sale.

“Any bids? “I don’t know, he’s my player and he’s not for sale. He’s committed to us,” Pereira added.

With Arsenal cooling their interest in Cunha at least till the summer and no other clubs lodging a bid, time is running out for their star forward to leave, much to the delight of Wolves fans.
