Vitor Pereira’s 2023 warning to Corinthians could resurface at Wolves – Fosun must take it seriously

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has experience in a range of countries, with the Molineux job being his first in the Premier League.

Pereira left Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia to commit his future to Wolves, where he has since impressed in the West Midlands.

The Portuguese coach got off to a remarkable start as Pereira made Wolves history by remaining unbeaten in his first three games as manager.

Though the early signs suggest that the 56-year-old can create something positive at Molineux, the Wolves manager must first overcome something that has stung many before him.

Vitor Pereira warned Corinthians of financial issues

Pereira arrived to replace Gary O’Neil, whose time at Wolves fell apart due to a terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Though O’Neil has his faults, there was some sympathy for the former manager during his time in the Midlands, as the Englishman wasn’t sufficiently supported by the board.

Fosun have caused Wolves significant problems since their takeover in 2016, with the owner’s most punishable offence being the reluctance to financially back the club.

O’Neil pleaded to Fosun countless times, something that cannot repeat itself in the summer transfer window with Pereira at the helm.

Though the January transfer window was a success for Wolves, more needs to be seen in the summer, which the boss has already warned the club’s hierarchy about.

Pereira isn’t afraid to air his frustrations, as seen in 2023 when he explained his reasons for leaving Corinthians.

“It was very hard to leave Corinthians, but I felt I had to leave. There was no way I could build what I wanted,” the coach said on the Ataque Rapido podcast.

The Wolves boss continued by expressing his concern regarding the lack of ‘plan’ at Corinthians, which was a contributing factor to his exit.

“I also felt that there was absolutely no plan, to do better than what we did was impossible. Essentially the problem was a lack of money, I believe they will do the best they can.”

Pereira admitted that he didn’t see a ‘winning project’ ahead of him, something that the Wolves hierarchy must take note of ahead of a crucial summer.

Fosun must support Pereira in the summer

It’s already expected to be a busy summer of both incomings and outgoings at Molineux.

Matheus Cunha’s release clause means that clubs will be able to poach the Brazilian to the tune of just £62.5m, a bargain fee given how impressive the forward has been.

Replacing Cunha will be an incredibly difficult task and one that will not be able to be completed without sufficient financial support.

Pereira has already made Fosun aware of what he expects from the club he works for, giving the owners a vital heads-up before the end of the season.
