Vitor Pereira should upgrade key Wolves position with Premier League title winner – he wants to leave

It’s only the second day of the January transfer window but Wolves have shown huge interest in several new signings.

Vitor Pereira’s main aim in January is for Wolves to sign two new defenders. The Old Gold have been left short on options with injuries to Yerson Mosquera and Toti Gomes.

Meanwhile, Wolves also have the league’s joint-worst defence this term with 42 goals conceded in just 19 games.

Admittedly, the Wanderers have looked much improved under Pereira, having kept two clean sheets in three matches, but defensive reinforcements are necessary for survival.

So far, Wolves have held talks with Kevin Danso, the Austrian powerhouse who they tried to sign in the summer, and he isn’t the only player they should be going all out to capture.

Danilo wants to leave Juventus – Wolves should try and sign him

Wolves fans are crying out for at least two centre-backs to sign in January as only Santi Bueno and Craig Dawson are the only two fit senior options in that position.

Pereira’s lack of defensive depth has seen him deploy Matt Doherty as a right-sided centre-back with Nelson Semedo operating as a wing-back.

It’s an experiment that has worked so far, with Wolves fans calling Doherty a club legend after his showing against Tottenham.

However, with the Republic of Ireland star shuffling into a more defensive role, perhaps this opens the door for Pereira to sign a new right-back this month.

So, with this in mind, Wolves could do far worse than landing Danilo from Juventus as director Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed they’re working to sell the 33-year-old.

Remarkably, the Brazilian right-back has captained Juve in six of his 12 Serie A appearances this term, assisting once.

But now, after 213 appearances in Turin, the experienced defender is on the verge of leaving and he would fit in perfectly at Molineux.

Danilo would fit in well with Wolves’ Brazilian contingent

Danilo has played for some of the best teams in world football. From Juventus to Porto and Manchester City to Real Madrid, he’s one of the most decorated defenders of this generation.

Across his successful career, the versatile full-back has won one Scudetto, two Champions Leagues, two Premier Leagues, two FA Cup trophies and one La Liga title, among many other accolades.

In terms of an experienced head in a relegation battle, Danilo is up there with one of the best Pereira could sign, especially with his contract expiring in 2025.

The defender, who was rated highly by Pep Guardiola at Man City, would become the latest Brazilian to join Wolves after Matheus Cunha, Joao Gomes and Andre.

Indeed, the settling-in period for Danilo at Molineux would be a smooth transition, as he’d have many teammates who speak his language and have crossed paths with him previously.

Of course, with Wolves struggling at the bottom of the table, the 65-cap Brazil international perhaps wouldn’t be sold by the project under Pereira.

However, the chance to close out his career in the Premier League is an opportunity he could grasp with open arms and become a crucial piece of the survival puzzle.
