Vitor Pereira put on red alert as Wolves January target has shockingly low £1.2m release clause

The beginning of the transfer window has already shown where Wolves must prioritise improvements to their squad.

Matheus Cunha joined Manchester United, and Manchester City are on the verge of signing Rayan Ait-Nouri, with Vitor Pereira facing the challenge of replacing the majority of his attacking output.

Cunha and Ait-Nouri amassed a whopping 32 goal involvements between them in 2024/25, as they blossomed into a wonderful partnership down the left flank.

Wolves are eyeing Roger Fernandes as a potential replacement for their Brazilian superstar, while Brondby’s Clement Bischoff is being tracked as they aim to fill Ait-Nouri’s void.

But it isn’t just at left wing-back and attacking midfield where Pereira is eyeing improvements, with one centre-back now available for a bargain price.

Wolves target Japhet Tanganga available for a bargain £1.2 million

Although it emerged this week that Wolves are chasing Millwall’s Mihailo Ivanovic, he isn’t the only player from the Den who has caught their eye previously.

In the January transfer window, Wolves were preparing an offer for Japhet Tanganga, who is Alex Neil’s star centre-back.

Neil played down rumours linking Tanganga to Wolves during the winter, but after a sensational Championship campaign, the 26-year-old will now be attracting a whole host of attention.

Millwall were demanding eight figures for their prized asset, but remarkably, journalist Richard Cawley has claimed that the former Tottenham man has a release clause of around £1.2 million in his contract, and it is said only Premier League clubs can activate it.

With Pereira looking for at least one more centre-back to challenge the likes of Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou and Toti Gomes, surely the Portuguese must consider triggering that bargain release clause.

Tanganga has ambitions of returning to the Premier League

Mourinho praised Tanganga after coming through the ranks at Spurs. Unfortunately, he failed to cement his spot in the starting lineup and was eventually released by the club in 2024.

Millwall benefitted from that decision as they snapped him up on a free transfer after he enjoyed a successful loan spell.

Tanganga featured 40 times last term and was one of the best defenders in the Championship, with Neil’s men narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

However, their failure in that regard could see their star centre-back exit the club after previously stating his ambitions of playing Premier League football.

Speaking in November, he said via South London: “It’s definitely an ambition to get to the Premier League and there’s nothing wrong with ambition.

“You have to take it step-by-step. We had a hard summer with losing Matty [Sarkic] and we’re starting to gel together well now.”

So, with a dream of returning to the big time and a release clause of £1.2 million, Wolves could land a serious bargain by signing Tanganga.
