Vitor Pereira must launch move for ‘outstanding’ Wolves target if Kevin Danso move fails

The final stages of the January transfer window promise to be a busy period for Wolves, who want to add the finishing touches to their business.

Vitor Pereira’s only signing so far is defender Emmanuel Agbadou, who joined on a 4.5-year deal from Reims.

Agbadou has made an excellent start to his Wolves career but Pereira still wants two more signings and one of those is another centre-back.

The target at the top of their list is RC Lens defender Kevin Danso, the Austrian international who the Old Gold have attempted to sign previously.

In this window, they’ve revisited interest in the 26-year-old, with Wolves seeing two bids rejected for Danso.

With a deal still a long way from being completed and Aston Villa also showing interest in Danso, Pereira shouldn’t put all his eggs in one basket, and could instead pursue another target.

Wolves must pursue a move for Japhet Tanganga if Kevin Danso doesn’t join

Supporters will want to see Danso become the club’s second signing of the January window; however, if that isn’t possible, there is another player Wolves should attempt to lure from the Championship.

Wolves were linked with Japhet Tanganga last month and were expected to make an offer in January. While that didn’t materialise, Pereira should go back in for the 25-year-old.

Tanganga has been a stalwart alongside Jake Cooper this term, with the Englishman showcasing his incredible ball-playing attributes and aerial ability.

The former Tottenham man has missed just three Championship games this term, underlining his constant availability while highlighting his progression.

Former Millwall boss Neil Harris dubbed Tanganga ‘outstanding’ last term as he starred while on loan from Tottenham, making a permanent transfer in the summer.

Wolves must look at the talented defender as an option in the closing stages of the window as several other clubs will be sniffing for his signature in the summer.

Millwall’s stance on selling Tanganga

When Wolves first registered an interest in Tanganga, a fee for the player was never mentioned but it’s probably less than the £25m asking price for Danso.

While Lens don’t want to sell Danso, Millwall are in a similar position with their star defender after Alex Neil previously addressed the Tanganga rumours.

Speaking last month, Neil said: “But it is just speculation. I’m not going to say that to you (that he will be staying) and Japhet is going to leave tomorrow. But I’m unaware of anything apart from probably paper talk surrounding Japhet.

“There has not been any discussion in regards to anybody showing any serious interest in Japhet.”

It would be interesting to see how Millwall would respond if Wolves offered upwards of £10 million for the player, as they’ve already sold Romain Esse to Crystal Palace for £12m this month.
