‘Unexpected’ transfer opportunity could arise for Wolves after Matheus Cunha exit

Wolves will be assessing their options in the summer transfer window ahead of Vitor Pereira’s first full season.

In a disappointing, but expected, start to the transfer window, Wolves have lost one key player and are in line to bid farewell to another.

Rayan Ait-Nouri is expected to join Manchester City on the back of a tremendous season at Molineux, joining Matheus Cunha on the departure list.

After a lengthy and tedious transfer saga, Cunha signed for Manchester United as the Red Devils triggered the Brazilian’s £62.5m release clause.

Pereira wanted to retain his players in the summer, but already, such has not been possible, placing emphasis on the need to recruit meaningfully.

Wolves could be handed a chance to sign Youssef En-Nesyri

The Old Gold are already sounding out options to replace Ait-Nouri, with Clement Bischoff on Wolves’ radar.

When it comes to Cunha, things won’t be so easy, as replacing a player who scored 27 Premier League goals since 2023/24 is difficult, even more so when working on a tight budget.

There is, however, an opportunity arising for clubs in need of a seasoned goalscorer, as Spanish outlet AS have reported.

AS documented the ‘unexpected’ availability of former Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri, who signed for Fenerbahce last summer.

It’s understood that Fenerbahce are ‘listening to offers’ for the 28-year-old, who just enjoyed a terrific free-scoring season.

Over the 2024/25 campaign, En-Nesyri netted 30 goals for the Turkish side, even catching out English opposition as he scored against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Jose Mourinho’s striker could be a remarkable market opportunity for Wolves, with a £33m asking price in place, a fee that could be negotiated.

En-Nesyri guarantees goals

Signing a forward that can replace the goals lost by Cunha’s exit to Old Trafford will be challenging, but En-Nesyri could be the solution.

The Moroccan scores wherever he goes, as his numbers show, being a free scorer in the Super Lig and La Liga.

Of course, the Premier League is a different story, but if there’s any time Wolves should have trust in strikers who have scored freely in Spain, it’s now.

Jorgen Strand Larsen enjoyed a record-breaking season at Wolves after impressing at Celta Vigo, a campaign in Spain that saw him outscored by En-Nesyri.

It would be fascinating to see Wolves bolster their attacking ranks with a striker as clinical as the Fenerbahce star, who could gift Pereira the output needed now that Cunha has gone.
