Toti Gomes has surely got to be playing more minutes for Wolves after Liverpool display

Wolves defender Toti Gomes turned out to be one of the most talked about players from last night’s FA Cup clash with Liverpool.

The Portuguese became the centre of two big controversies at Anfield.

Firstly, Mo Salah’s goal for Liverpool was able to stand, because Toti headed the ball in from Cody Gakpo.

Salah was offside when the ball was played, but Toti playing the ball meant Salah then became onside. That has brough the offside law into the spotlight.

But the biggest controversy was the disallowing of his goal towards the end.

The linesman flagged for offside against Matheus Nunes, who had received the ball again when it got cleared from a corner.

Scandalously, there were no camera angles available to pick up Nunes’ position, and so the on-field decision was upheld. And Toti was denied his best moment in a Wolves’ shirt.

Hopefully the 24-year-old will not be too down about it today.

Because by and large, he put in a really good display against Liverpool.

Yes, he might have done better with the Gakpo cross for Salah.

But other than that, he was really solid against dangerous players like Gakpo, Salah and Darwin Nunez.

He made a staggering 14 clearances according to Sofascore data.

Toti Gomes deserves more chances for Wolves after performance against Liverpool

Wolves are currently looking to bring in a new centre-back.

That is the right thing for the club to do. But Toti, 23, surely deserves more chances to play following his showing against Liverpool.

In the whole, Toti has given a good account of himself in the Wolves first-team since making his debut last season. He has definitely proven himself capable at this level. He just lacks experience right now.

Given Maximilian Kilman’s form is a bit up and down at the moment, maybe he should be getting more minutes and the chance to build that experience.

The next game is against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup, and few fans would be opposed to seeing him keep his place.
