The Wolves captaincy is something of a poisoned chalice.
For the last three summers in a row, Wolves have seen whoever was sporting the armband leave the football club.
Conor Coady left in 2022 to join Everton on loan, and was then sold to Leicester City in the summer of 2023.
Ruben Neves the assumed the armband and wore it for one season, before he completed a move to Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023, which remains the most heart-breaking departure of all for most Wolves fans.
Then last summer, Max Kilman left for West Ham United.
Mario Lemina became the new captain but lost it after his embarrassing behaviour after Wolves to West Ham United in December. That was the beginning of the end for him.
There would be no summer exit for Lemina, as he left in February to join Galatasaray.
But the trend of a captain leaving every summer recently could still continue, with the latest man to sport the armband at Wolves being Nelson Semedo.
Semedo could leave Wolves as his contract runs out in the summer, so Molineux News looks at three potential candidates to be the next skipper at Molineux.
Matt Doherty

Matt Doherty is in his second spell at Wolves and is pretty much a modern legend at this point.
He was once a marauding right wing-back, who would regularly chip in with goals and assists.
These days, Doherty has been playing on the right of a back three under Vitor Pereira, and has been doing very well there.
Pereira recently praised Doherty for showing personality against Bournemouth in the FA Cup as he took a penalty in the shootout.
With 364 games for Wolves under his belt, this is a man who loves the club and knows what the fans want to see. He always gives his all, and would surely make a great captain having served the club so well over two stints.
Emmanuel Agbadou
Agbadou has only been at Wolves for five minutes but is already a key player.
Agbadou scooped Wolves’ Player of the Month award for January, and it’s clear to see from watching him that he’s just got that authority about him.
It was claimed Agbadou impressed in meetings with Wolves before signing, and Agbadou himself has also talked up the fact he is a leader, saying: “I think I can use this leadership for this team, and the coach told me about that also, it’s for that I’m here, so I can help him with my leadership.”
Dave Edwards called Agbadou a ‘revelation’ recently, so between his massive impact so far, quality and leadership skills, he could be a great choice.
Joao Gomes
It has been a pleasure to watch Joao Gomes’ journey at Wolves.
He arrived as a pretty reserved character, but has now really come out of his shell.
Gomes said Gary O’Neil had helped him a lot at Wolves and these days, his presence both on and off the pitch is undeniable.
Wolves fans love Gomes for the way he plays. There have been some pretty shocking performances this season, but even in the defeats Gomes has always set an example, running his socks off and playing his heart out for the badge.
Perhaps it might be a bit soon, and of course, there is a chance that others clubs will be trying to sign Gomes in the summer.
But if Wolves stay up, offering Gomes the armband might just be something that keeps him around.
