The three-point checklist Wolves must follow now the January window is open

The January transfer window is now officially open, and Wolves have quite a bit of work to do.

Rob Edwards needs to make recruitments, and he has been told that money is available to sign some players.

However, the Old Gold may also have some players they must sell off.

Early reports indicate a striker is on the cards, with Sam Surridge linked to Wolves and Hibernian’s Kieron Bowie, another forward, on the shortlist, but there is a lot more that needs doing.

With that in mind, there are three must-do things the Wanderers have to do in this window, and they cannot end the month without completing this checklist.

Cash in on players not committed to the cause

Matt Doherty hinted that he feels there are players angling for a move away from Wolves in a passionate rant earlier in December.

And if that is the case, the Old Gold must root those players out of the club and cash in early. If the Wanderers want to have any success in the second half of the season, each and every player must be committed to the club.

Relegation looks likely, but if survival is still possible, they must fight until the very end.

Jamie Carragher believes Jorgen Strand Larsen is one of those players, and that a move away is surely in the works.

However, time will tell which players truly want to turn things around depending on how the window plays out.

And it could also make room for more non-homegrown players to arrive, as currently the full quota is filled by Wolves.

At least two new forwards if Jorgen Strand Larsen sold

Wolves need at least two forwards to join if the links with Jorgen Strand Larsen moving away come to fruition.

They cannot leave themselves with just one recognised centre-forward, and as previously stated, links to Surridge and Bowie seem to show their intent in that area of the market.

The Old Gold also need another winger, as the current options, other than Mateus Mane, do not offer much promise.

Jhon Arias has not impressed out on the wing, and his future could be in midfield for Wolves. Additionally, Hwang Hee-chan has continued to frustrate supporters with his performances.

The Wanderers have been linked to Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and his likeness to Pedro Neto could make him a great signing.

Bring in a new goalkeeper

Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone appear to be swapping places as Wolves’ number one, with the Portuguese recently taking up the spot again.

Edwards dropping Johnstone could be his way of showing he is not happy with either option between the sticks, even if Jose Sa has recently been impressive.

And to be honest, it would not be a surprise to see the two swap places again at some point. With that in mind, Edwards needs to have a number one he fully trusts.

Links to James Trafford and Christos Mandas have appeared over the last few months, which may also suggest a goalkeeper is on the list for January.

However, at present, it would have to be Jose Sa who departs if it is Mandas who comes in.
