The five players not good enough for Wolves, Vitor Pereira should sell them all in the summer

There are just nine Premier League games left before the end of the season and less than three months before the start of the summer transfer window.

Although the Old Gold could still be relegated, they’re in a great position to stay up.

Wolves’ recent 2-1 win over Southampton extended their lead over 18th and 19th-placed Ipswich and Leicester to nine points — a virtually insurmountable margin given the two side’s dire form.

However, now is not the time to get overly confident. Even though Wolves will likely be a Premier League team again next season, Vitor Pereira has a lot of work to do in the summer.

The Wolves manager needs to make several new signings, and, more crucially, sanction the departures of some key figures.

Molineux News has taken a look at five Wolves first team players who are not good enough to stay with the club beyond this season.

Hwang Hee-chan

Hwang Hee-chan has had a miserable season.

The 29-year-old has managed to score just two goals across all competitions. He has failed to compete with Matheus Cunha and, injuries aside, has slipped further down the pecking order.

Hwang Hee-chan was linked with West Ham earlier in the season but Julen Lopetegui’s Hammers departure has all but ended the Londoners’ interest.

Regardless, although a move to West Ham is off the table, Wolves should look to cash in as soon as the summer transfer window opens and get the biggest fee they can for the misfiring South Korean.

Santiago Bueno

Santiago Bueno has been criticised in the past but Emmanuel Agbadou’s arrival in January has highlighted just how fragile the Uruguayan’s position is at the heart of Wolves’ defence.

Bueno has played a key role at times throughout the campaign, but Agbadou’s mid-season signing, along with Toti Gomes and Matt Doherty’s fine form has left the 26-year-old looking like a back-up at best.

Wolves aren’t short on centre-back options, but if Pereira wants to add another in the summer, Bueno, who has three years left on his deal, could bring in a decent transfer fee and allow for more flexibility in the market.

Goncalo Guedes

Goncalo Guedes has given Wolves the same conundrum that Hwang Hee-chan has.

He’s massively underperformed since arriving but still has a few years left on his contract and has yet to turn 30 years old.

Guedes could still have a decent market value, but his woes in front of goal won’t help Wolves when it comes to finding a buyer in the summer window.

Either way, with just seven goals to his name, the Portuguese winger has been a failed project since he joined for big money from Valencia in 2022.

It’s time Pereira ended the experiment and cut the 28-year-old loose.

Jose Sa

Jose Sa has been a great servant for Wolves since he joined from Olympiacos in 2021.

He has made over 130 club appearances and has largely kept his place as the side’s Number 1. Unfortunately though, the end of the season feels like the right time for the Portugal international to move on.

Wolves need to sign a new goalkeeper — one that is capable of making a real difference. Nowadays, all the top clubs prioritise having a quality shot-stopper, and although Sa has solid credentials, he is unable to take the side to the next level, as proven by his declining individual stats.

Sam Johnstone remains a good backup option, but Pereira must bring in a younger, hungrier, more agile and commanding keeper to take over from Sa in between the Molineux sticks.

Sasa Kalajdzic

Sasa Kalajdzic has been excluded from Wolves’ Premier League squad after suffering yet another ACL injury.

Kalajdzic tore his ACL while on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt — the third time he’s suffered this type of injury — a real concern for Wolves’ medical staff.

Despite being a Wolves player for two-and-a-half years, Kalajdzic has made just 14 appearances, scoring three goals, across all competitions.

He has two years left on his deal, but considering his drop-off, he will be lucky to still be a Wolves player come the start of the 2025-26 campaign.
