Wolves considered a number of strikers last month but were ultimately unable to do anything given the financial restrictions – but one target, Mohamed Amoura, might just be worth revisiting this summer.
Wanderers were in the market for a new number nine last month, and Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva were both loaned out seemingly in anticipation that a new face would arrive.
Yuri Alberto was a late target, but his agent demanded extra money right at the last minute.
Then Armando Broja was the focus on deadline day, but Fulham won the race for the Chelsea man.
Just ahead of the January window, Wolves were linked with a move for the Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura, and he looks like someone worth keeping an eye on…
Mohamed Amoura is up to 20 goals for the season now, as Wolves eye new striker

It was slightly disappointing that Wolves were unable to sign a new striker last month, but the club were not overly desperate.
The search will no doubt resume in the summer though, with O’Neil wanting to keep Matheus Cunha in more of a free role.
O’Neil said that Sasa Kalajdzic wouldn’t have played had he not sealed a loan move away last month, suggesting that he does not really rate the Austrian.
So it does seem like Wolves will once again be in the market for a new striker – and the club will be able to spend more freely in the next window.
One wonders if Amoura will be someone they look at.
It was claimed just ahead of the window that Wolves liked Amoura and were battling Arsenal for his signature.
He stayed put at Union Saint-Gilloise, and since the links, he was taken his goal tally up to 20 for the season across all competitions.
Since returning to his club from AFCON, Amoura has scored three goals for Union SG in four games, and is really impressing. Only Kevin Denkey of Cercle Brugge has scored more than his 16 league goals so far (via ESPN).
Amoura one to watch
Amoura is enjoying a really good season over in Belgium in his first campaign with Union SG.
The 19-cap Algeria international – who of course, is an international teammate of current Wolves star Rayan Ait-Nouri – is thriving, and his haul of 20 goals makes this his best goalscoring season as a professional.
Amoura has been described previously by his teammate Alessio Castro-Montes as ‘really super fast’ He also added (Voetbal Primeur): “His biggest advantage is his efficiency. He really is a monster in front of goal, even though he doesn’t even get that many playing minutes. In a match like today you can see his impact.”
That’s an encouraging testimony, and suggests him as being an O’Neil type of player, with the manager often going with a speedy frontline this season.
