Wolves currently do not really have any central attacking midfielders.
There are three central midfield options available to Bruno Lage – Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker.
None of them are particularly attack-minded, and none of them score goals with any particular regularity.
Fans have been urging Fosun to facilitate a move for someone who can score goals from midfield areas.
Arguably, it’s something the squad has been crying out for for some time now – and there might just be a player in the Championship who is up to the job.
Fabio Carvalho is enjoying an absolutely fantastic season with Fulham in the English second tier.
The 19-year-old made his debut for Cottagers last term, but has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021/22.
He really caught people’s attention by scoring three goals in Fulham’s first five Championship matches.
Such a fine start helped him land the Player of the Month award for August.
Carvalho picked up an injury which halted his momentum, but he returned to action in October and began to impress again.
The 19-year-old is back in brilliant form again having hit three goals in his last two matches for free-scoring Fulham.
He hit a brace last night against Birmingham, and also picked up an assist. That brings his total for the season to seven in 17 games.
Carvalho’s performances have not gone unnoticed. TEAMtalk reported recently that the star is being tracked by a number of clubs. Contract talks between him and Fulham over a new deal have not progressed.
As things stand, he will leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season. And Wolves might want to get in position.
An in-depth feature from Goal recently described Carvalho as ‘Frank Lampard-esque’ for the way he makes late runs into the box to get in goalscoring positions.
Wolves should look to make a move for Fabio Carvalho
There is a clear emphasis on signing young players with big potential at Wolves at the moment.
The likes of Fabio Silva, Ki-Jana Hoever, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Chiquinho have all joined in recent times.
Obviously, there is a large Portuguese contingent at Molineux. It just makes sense for Wolves to be taking a look at Carvalho.
He’s been linked with the likes of West Ham United, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.
But Wolves surely stand a good chance of landing him given Carvalho already has so many compatriots enjoying life at the club.
The fact he could be a free signing has surely got to mean Wolves should make some enquiries.
