Romain Saiss deserves to have his contract extended by Wolves.

The 31-year-old produced an absolutely colossal performance against Manchester United last night, blocking and heading everything as well as being one of the team’s biggest threats.

In the interest of balance, he slotted in as the middle centre-back at Old Trafford, with the right-footed Conor Coady shifting over to the right and Max Kilman on the left.

It’s not a position he’s ever played before, but you would not have known it at all.

It is just another role he seems totally comfortable in, and his versatility makes him absolutely vital.

He did struggle slightly when asked to play left wing-back earlier in the season, but that is a tricky position to play that requires a player to bomb forwards.

He can obviously also play in midfield if needed.

The Moroccan’s ability to play all these roles and suit different systems is so underrated, and a new deal is surely in the pipeline.

Contract extension needed

Nuno Espirito Santo, Conor Coady, Raul Jimenez, Pedro Neto, Max Kilman and Leander Dendoncker have all penned new deals, and Saiss should absolutely be next in line.

Reportedly there is an option for Saiss to have his deal extended by one year, and one has to think the club will be taking that up after such a solid 2020.

The £22,000-a-week star (Spotrac) always plays with commitment and passion, and also carries a fair goal threat.

His years may be advancing, but Saiss gives off the vibe that he still has a couple of years in him at the top level.

To lose a player who offers as much as he does on a free would simply be a shocking oversight by the club.
