Romain Saiss could benefit from a game or two on the bench for Wolves

Romain Saiss has come in for criticism following his performance for Wolves against Leeds United.

Wanderers had a golden chance to move up to sixth in the Premier League table after finding themselves 2-0 at half-time at Molineux.

Francisco Trincao had made a great impact after replacing the injured Ruben Neves. He assisted Jonny and then scoring his first Premier League goal of the season.

But Wolves relinquished their lead in the second-half, with the very questionable sending off of Raul Jimenez the catalyst for Leeds’ comeback.

It was a poor decision from Kevin Friend to given the Mexican a second booking.

But Wolves should have been a lot tighter at the back.

It was really surprising and disappointing to see how panicky everyone was.

Gary Neville said that Saiss struggled for pretty much the whole second-half.

The £3 million star was shaky, and his clearance before Wolves scored their second goal was extremely poor.

An argument can now be made that Saiss should be taken out of the starting XI.

He has played every game he’s been available for this season in the Premier League. Bruno Lage clearly rates him highly, and there’s no denying that, overall, he’s been great this term.

But at this moment in time, it feels like it’s time for him to be on the bench for a game or two.

Since he came back from AFCON, his level hasn’t been as high as before he left for the tournament.

Romain Saiss could do with a break for Wolves so he can re-focus

Surely this is something Lage should give consideration to.

Saiss has dipped in recent weeks, and he might just be in need of some time on the bench.

Max Kilman was recently benched against Watford and he came back the next game against Everton and was really good.

Saiss will not really get any rest over the international break with Morocco in action twice against DR Congo.

So Lage should look at using one of Willy Boly or Toti Gomes in the back three along with Kilman and Conor Coady.

It could do both Saiss and the team good.
