Wolves will already have one eye on the summer transfer window after Rob Edwards’ appointment, and we have the perfect suggestion.
Rob Edwards will be keen to add his own touch to the current Wolves squad, and Jeff Shi has already stated that he will back the new boss in January.
One thing that has been highlighted is being more decisive when transfer opportunities come around after leaving things late with the Tolu Arokodare signing in the summer.
However, this is a stark contrast from Jeff Shi’s original thoughts on the summer transfer window, where he publicly backed Fosun’s business during Vitor Pereira’s reign.
Jeff Shi on Wolves’ summer transfer window business
Dominico Teti and Pereira’s exits will certainly force a shift in attention, plus the claims that Jorge Mendes’ influence is going to be wound down at Molineux.
Looking at Premier League experience and England-based players would certainly be a step in the right direction, and the perfect player may must be available.
Wolves have to go all out for Everton’s Dwight McNeil in January
Dwight McNeil made a name for himself in the Premier League during his time at Burnley under Sean Dyche, but things have slowly gone downhill at Goodison Park.
He’s only appeared six times for the Toffees, totaling to just 278 minutes. It’s through no fault of his own though, as Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye have been sensational.

The Englishman scored five and assisted eight in just 23 games in the 2024-25 season, which is even more creative contributions than Matheus Cunha had.
Back in 2020, during Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign, Wolves had an interest in signing the winger whilst he was still at Turf Moor (as per Sky Sports).
The creative spark Wolves are missing after summer departures
Pablo Sarabia, Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha combined for 19 assists last season, which accounted for 46% of Wolves’ overall tally in the Premier League.
This season is a whole different story. Just four assists in 11 games highlights the massive creativity gap missing at Wolves currently, especially as only one attacker has contributed.
| Stat (Premier League 2024-25 season, FBRef) | Matheus Cunha | Dwight McNeil |
| Shot creation actions per 90 | 4.57 | 4.73 |
| Assists | 6 | 6 |
| Goal creation actions per 90 | 0.55 | 0.66 |
| Expected assisted goals | 7.7 | 5.2 |
| Pass completion | 71.6% | 74.5% |
| Assists per 90 minutes | 0.21 | 0.39 |
| Goals per shot | 0.14 | 0.16 |
Matheus Cunha had one of the best seasons of his career at Wolves last season, so to see McNeil go toe-to-toe with the Brazilian despite only featuring in 23 games in all competitions is crazy.
His creativity and crossing ability suits the likes of Tolu Arokodare and Jorgen Strand Larsen to a tee, with balls into the box often of low quality at Wolves.
However, the issue with many transfer talks this summer will be the position Wolves find themselves in come January, as relegation isn’t exactly an attractive prospect.
