Rob Edwards could make surprise Wolves inclusion vs Nottingham Forest after U21s decision

Wolves are taking on Nottingham Forest tonight in the Premier League – and Rob Edwards could make a surprise inclusion in his matchday squad.

Wolves host the Reds at Molineux, and Edwards is searching for his first win at the third time of asking.

There were positive signs against Aston Villa, with Wolves very unlucky not to take at least a point.

Now, the players must take those positives and run with them into this game against Forest, who are loitering just above the relegation zone.

They have improved under Sean Dyche. But this is still an opportunity for Wolves.

As ever, it will be fascinating to see who makes the matchday squad. Last time out against Villa, there were inclusions for Mateus Mane and Tawanda Chirewa.

Clearly Edwards won’t be afraid to turn to youth – and perhaps we might see Enso Gonzalez tonight.

As we have seen this season, Wolves have been really lacking in the final third.

Players like Jhon Arias, Hwang Hee-chan, Fer Lopez and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde have all struggled to supply the strikers and chip in goals themselves.

It is perhaps telling that Mane and Chirewa have gotten minutes under Edwards so far.

The manager seems ready to trust in youth, and it will be interesting to see who else gets called on this season.

Against Forest, one player could well be Enso Gonzalez, who was not in the U21s squad last night.

Four of the last six Premier League meetings between Wolves and Nottingham Forest have been drawn, with each side winning once each.

Gonzalez has only ever made one appearance for Wolves first-team, which came at the end of the 2023/24 season when Gary O’Neil put him on for the closing stages against Crystal Palace.

The fact he wasn’t involved for the U21s against Boreham Wood last night may well hint at a place in the first-team squad tonight.

Enso Gonzalez ‘ready’ for first-team football at Wolves

It will be fascinating to see if Gonzalez is a part of tonight’s squad. There may also be a nod for midfielder Luke Rawlings, who wasn’t involved either.

There does appear to be a chance that the Paraguayan starlet could have some involvement at least soon if not tonight.

Because James Collins recently suggested that Gonzalez was ‘ready’ for first-team football, along with Mane and Chirewa.

It has been a turbulent spell for Gonzalez at Wolves, thanks mainly to the awful knee injury he suffered last year.

That really set him back.

But with Edwards now at the helm, perhaps there will be some opportunities for Gonzalez this term.
