Relive Wolves’ greatest-ever victories in the Fosun era

Wolves have had plenty of memorable victories across the nine seasons Fosun has overseen.

Since Fosun has taken over the club, many of the Molineux faithful have experienced plenty of ups and downs.

From a relegation scrap in the Championship to fighting for Champions League qualification, it certainly has been a journey.

Yet, with Gary O’Neil now at the helm, Wolves are still picking up multiple victories that will be remembered for generations to come.

With that being said, Molineux News has ranked the 10 best victories the Old Gold faithful have overseen in the last nine years.

10. Bolton Wanderers 0-4 Wolves – April 2018

It was party time at the end of the 2017/18 campaign as Wolves travelled to Bolton. Promotion was already secured as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side aimed to secure the Champions title.

With the club needing just one point, the visitors saw out a victory in style.

Barry Douglas netted Wolves’ first as he tapped the ball into the net after Benik Afobe’s first shot was saved.

Afobe quickly got the Old Gold’s second after a ball over the top reached the striker before he took it around the ‘keeper and guided it into the net.

Into the second half, Diogo Jota added another goal to his collection as he chipped the ball over the goalie.

To round off the game, Conor Coady was allowed to get his first goal of the season as he buried a penalty to seal the title.

9. Aston Villa 2-3 Wolves – October 2021

After starting his Wolves managerial career with three Premier League defeats, Bruno Lage had managed to turn the Old Gold’s form around.

The Portuguese manager went to Villa Park looking for his third league victory in a row after dismantling Southampton and Newcastle.

However, it looked like the visitors were heading towards a defeat as Danny Ings and John McGinn put Villa 2-0 up.

Yet, Wolves did not give up. Romain Saiss managed to pull a goal back in the 80th minute as he slid the ball into the net.

Coady then netted the equaliser five minutes later as he bundled the ball across the line late on.

However, Wolves weren’t done yet. A last-gasp free-kick from Ruben Neves deflected into the net in the 95th minute to give the travelling supporters a memorable victory.

8. Liverpool 1-2 Wolves – January 2017

Fosun’s first campaign at Wolves certainly didn’t go to plan. Walter Zenga was sacked as quickly as he was appointed with Paul Lambert taking the reins from November.

However, the Scotsman struggled to find success in the Championship, with the club at one point being sucked into a relegation battle.

Yet, in the FA Cup, Wolves were unbelievable. After knocking out Premier League outfit Stoke City, they travelled to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool with little hope of getting anything.

However, in the first minute of the match, Richard Stearman popped up from a free-kick to give Wolves an unexpected lead. This was soon followed up by Andreas Weimann making it 2-0 just before half-time.

While Liverpool did manage to get one goal back late on, it wasn’t enough as Lambert managed to mastermind a shocking victory over the English giants.

7. Man City 0-2 Wolves

Wolves continued where they left off in the 2019/20 campaign after a sensational previous year.

However, while their Europa League campaign started strongly, Nuno struggled to achieve anything more than a draw in the Premier League.

Yet, when the club travelled to the Etihad, Wolves would shock the nation when they came away with a 2-0 victory.

After holding on against the champions for 80 minutes, Adama Traore managed to slot the ball into the net after a breakaway.

The winger would then seal the victory in added time with another sensational counter-attack to cap off a wonderful performance.

6. Wolves 4-3 Leicester City – January 2019

In one of the most end-to-end games in recent Wolves history, Molineux was in for a treat when they faced former Premier League champions Leicester City.

Nuno was aiming to continue his side’s good form and the hosts got off to a great start when Jota put the Old Gold in front early on.

Ryan Bennett then extended Wolves’ lead at the 12-minute mark as he headed in from a corner.

Leicester would manage to get themselves back into the game thanks to a goal from Demarai Gray and an OG from Coady.

Jota would regain Wolves’ lead just after the hour mark as he finished off a superb counterattack.

It looked as if Jota’s efforts were in vain as Wes Morgan headed in a late equaliser.

However, in the 93rd minute, another sensational counterattack saw the ball land at Jota’s feet who found the net to seal his hat-trick and a Wolves victory.

5. Bristol City 1-2 Wolves – December 2017

Going back down to the Championship winning campaign, Wolves travelled to promotion-chasing Bristol City in a match that had everything.

The visitors were put at a disadvantage instantly when captain Danny Batth was sent off 14 minutes in.

After holding off the Robins’ attack in the first half, the 10-man side were finally thwarted in the second period as Bobby Reid got the opening goal.

As ever, Wolves did not give up. A clever counter-attack saw goalkeeper Frank Fielding sent off for taking down the onrushing Matt Doherty.

From the preceding free-kick, Douglas slammed the ball into the net to give Wolves a much-needed equaliser.

Then, right at the whistle, Wolves won another free-kick which allowed Bennett to head in a late winner to extend the visitor’s lead at the top of the table.

4. Wolves 3-2 Man City – December 2019

Just missing out on the top three spot, Wolves once again hosted Man City hoping to complete a historic double over the champions.

Optimism was high at Molineux when goalkeeper Ederson was sent off for a rash challenge of Jota.

Yet, mid-way through the half, Wolves would find themselves 1-0 down as Raheem Sterling tapped in his rebounded penalty which was forced to be retaken.

Into the second half, Sterling got his second and it looked to be a routine Man City victory.

However, Traore scored a magnificent goal from distance to help bring the hosts back into the game.

Raul Jimenez later tapped in a late equaliser before Doherty converted Wolves’ third in the 89th minute to complete the comeback.

3. West Brom 0-2 Wolves – January 2024

The most recent game on this list, Wolves and West Brom finally renewed their rivalry in the FA Cup last season.

There were big expectations on the Old Gold as they came into the game on form and against a Baggies side sitting in the Championship.

In front of a hostile Hawthorns ground, O’Neil’s side certainly delivered. Pedro Neto got Wolves’ first just before half-time with an acute finish.

Matheus Cunha then wrapped the victory up late on sparking joyous celebrations from the visiting supporters.

While crowd trouble did brew afterwards, it did not take away from the importance of finally ending Wolves’ winless streak at the Hawthorns.

2. Cardiff 0-1 Wolves – April 2018

Just missing out on the top spot is perhaps the most dramatic end to a game in Wolves’ history.

Nuno’s side travelled to second-placed Cardiff knowing that a win would all put secure promotion to the Premier League going into the remaining games.

Neil Warnock’s team had been on fire going into the match, and had won eight of their last nine matches.

It would no doubt be a stern test but Neves broke the travelling fans nerves when he netted a superb free-kick just after the hour mark.

Wolves looked like they were going to hold onto the three points until Mike Dean awarded the hosts a late penalty.

Up stepped striker Gary Madine, hoping to give the Bluebirds a late equaliser, but John Ruddy matched his effort to keep Wolves in the lead.

However, it looked to be all for nothing as in the 96th minute Cardiff were awarded another penalty thanks to a late challenge from Ivan Cavaleiro.

This time, Junior Hoilett was given the nod but his effort crashed off the woodwork. This proved to be the last kick of the match as Wolves somehow managed to collect all three points.

1. Wolves 2-1 Man United – March 2019

In their first year back in the Premier League, it is no secret that Wolves were fantastic.

For their form in the league, they managed to reach an FA Cup quarter-final where they would Man United at Molineux.

The Red Devils were on fire coming into the game. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had turned the club into monsters and they had just knocked PSG out of the Champions League at the Parc des Princes.

However, Molineux was rocking and Wolves played like their lives were on the line.

After an even first half, Jimenez managed to capitalise on a loose ball inside the box in the 70th minute to dart the ball into the net.

This was quickly followed up by a superb counter-attack which allowed Jota to double Wolves’ lead which caused Molineux to erupt.

While Marcus Rashford managed to get one back at the end, it was too little too late and Wolves were off to Wembley.
