Matheus Cunha is expected to leave Wolves at the end of the season. The Brazilian is linked with most of the Premier League’s top clubs.
Cunha has been Vitor Pereira’s most influential player this season. His contributions, which include 13 league goals, have been instrumental in Wolves’ hopes of survival.
Unsurprisingly, after signing a contract extension in January, which now includes a £62.5 million release clause, several clubs are interested in landing Cunha at the end of the season.
Consequently, following the Premier League’s decision to change the summer transfer window to bring its trading period forward, Molineux News has looked at every linked club’s chances of signing Wolves’ prolific number 10.

Assessing club’s chances of signing Matheus Cunha

It is one of football’s worst-kept secrets that Cunha is a player in demand. Not even Wolves supporters expect the Brazilian to be an Old Gold player next season.
To date, at least six Premier League clubs are linked with Cunha, including Nottingham Forest and Arsenal.
Molineux News have ranked each club’s chances of signing Cunha based on three key things:
- Projected Premier League finish
- Risk of breaching Premier League’s Profile and Sustainability rules (PSR)
- How many players in same position (CF and CAM)
Nottingham Forest
Although Cunha is expected to reject Nottingham Forest, Wolves have been warned of an early offer if Nuno Espirito Santo brings Champions League football to the City Ground next season.
The Tricky Trees have had an immense campaign but may not quite be where they need to be to sign a player of Cunha’s quality just yet.

Arsenal
Although Mikel Arteta has concerns about Cunha’s temperament, Arsenal’s need for a new forward is very apparent.

The Gunners have lost Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz to injury and cannot risk starting next season without new attacking additions.
Not only are the Londoners red-hot favourites to play in the 2025-26 Champions League, and appear the side most likely to challenge for the Premier League, but they’re also cash-rich and aren’t at risk of falling victim to PSR rules.

PSR Risk | Low |

- Chance of signing: Very good.
Spurs
Spurs have had a disastrous campaign. Multiple injuries have disrupted Ange Postecoglou’s plans and forced the Lilywhites into the bottom half of the table.
Although the Londoners are not at risk of being relegated, they certainly won’t qualify for European football next season. This factor makes them outsiders to sign Cunha, although they are, like Arsenal, in a good position, financially.

Manchester United
Manchester United are set for a summer of huge change. Ruben Amorim will be tasked with reinventing the Red Devils’ squad before the start of the 2025-26 season.

The Portuguese manager has a handful of attacking options already available to him but remains in the market for additional firepower to ease the pressure on captain Bruno Fernandes, who has, at times this term, carried the 20-time league winners.
While Manchester United’s expected league standing could result in them finishing in their worst-ever Premier League position, their PSR overall risk will be determined by how many outgoings they can complete.
The only positive thing the Red Devils can boast in pursuit of Cunha is the historical stature of the club and the fact they’re entering a new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Chelsea
Chelsea have made a huge number of signings over the past few transfer windows. The Blues have spent well over £1 billion on talent since Todd Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
The 2025-26 campaign has seen Chelsea have their best season since their US billionaire owner took charge but their plentiful attacking options could force Enzo Maresca to prioritise other areas.

Newcastle United
After beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final earlier this month, Newcastle United have lifted their first trophy in 70 years.
A club clearly on the rise, Eddie Howe is looking to add some of the league’s best talent to his options.
Although the Magpies will be in a much healthier position, financially, this summer, Cunha’s proposed transfer to St. James’ Park will likely hinge on whether or not Alexander Isak moves on.
