Promising Wolves academy gem is making waves for the U21s – Vitor Pereira must take notice

Wolves fans will be hopeful that the next generation of stars coming through the academy can one day rise to first-team prominence.

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White spent the whole of his youth career in the Wolves academy before being sold to the Reds for around £42.5 million in 2022.

Gibbs-White is a trailblazer for the next generation of talent who dream of following in his footsteps and becoming a Premier League superstar.

But recently, star talent coming through the production line at Molineux has slowed down, with Wolves using zero club-trained academy players in the top flight.

It’s a problem Fosun must address by improving the infrastructure and the level of scouting available. That being said, 18-year-old forward Dani Angel offers hope of a bright future.

Dani Angel is on fire for the Wolves U21s

Just like they did with Max Kilman, who joined from Non-League side Maidenhead United, Wolves also looked lower down the pyramid to sign Angel from London-based non-league outfit Clapton FC in 2023.

Since then, the teenager has found himself in a rich vein of goalscoring form for the U18s and U21s alongside a maiden call-up for Spain’s under-18 side.

As demonstrated by the above table, Angel is a prolific finisher of opportunities, netting 10 in 18 for the under-18s before stepping up to the under-21s in 2024/25.

On Friday night, the fleet-footed forward netted his sixth Premier League 2 goal of the season as Wolves picked up a brilliant 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

It pushed the young Wolves up to 11th in the table, level on points with Liverpool and only one shy of Arsenal, who are known for developing superstars.

Angel needs to be loaned out of Wolves next season

When Wolves completed the signing of Angel in October 2023, head of academy recruitment Danny Hooman said of the teenager via Wolves academy: “Dani is a pacy forward who wants to run in behind and score goals.

“He will give our under-18s group something different and is coming in with a hunger to improve and show us what he can do at a higher level.

“He will take some time to adjust having not been at a professional club before, but we feel he has the raw attributes we can nurture and develop. He had other Premier League interest and offers so we are happy he has chosen Wolves.”

Clearly, Angel has already showcased his instinctive finishing talents in the academy but the next step for him is playing some first-team football.

That is unrealistic under Vitor Pereira, as he needs time to develop and mature, but a loan spell to a side lower down the pyramid would be beneficial.

Angel could see his development skyrocket by playing against men and this is the first step to him becoming a star at Molineux.
