Potential Marcos Acuna signing could impact Wolves duo, but dressing room needs experience

Wolves have been linked with a move for Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna – and his potential signing could have a big impact on two Wanderers stars.

According to Vamos Mi Sevilla FC this week, Julen Lopetegui could launch a raid on his old club to bring in the Argentina international.

Acuna is supposedly one of three players at the club who have been told they can leave. Supposedly he would cost at least £10 million.

Links to the South American are very intriguing.

Wolves have a few positions they definitely need to address in January, but left-back hasn’t really been mentioned.

That’s because Hugo Bueno has emerged as a brilliant young talent at Molineux. The Spaniard made his first-team debut for the club in October, and has started the last three Premier League games.

He’s nudged ahead of Rayan Ait-Nouri in the pecking order.

So Wolves currently have two really promising left-backs on their hands.

But perhaps Lopetegui feels there is a need to add someone with a bit more experience.

At the age of 31, Acuna has plenty of that under his belt. Prior to playing for Sevilla, he spent a few years at Sporting CP and before that, Racing Club, one of the biggest clubs in Argentina.

He also has 45 caps for the national team.

In the summer, Wolves took an absolutely huge risk with their transfer business.

While a number of talented players came into the club, several experienced stars left.

Leaders like Conor Coady, John Ruddy, Romain Saiss, Leander Dendoncker, Willy Boly and Fernando Marcal all left.

Wolves are currently bottom of the Premier League table and an argument can be made that the squad is worse off for having fewer leaders and characters.

Saiss recently conducted an interview in which he suggested that Wolves had lost their identity. He questioned the decision to offload so many characters at once.

Bueno and Ait-Nouri’s development could suffer, but Acuna signing might be necessary for Wolves

It is a really interesting transfer link, because left-back is seemingly a position that is fairly strong right now at Wolves.

But Lopetegui knows Acuna well and is fully aware of the qualities he can bring as a player and a person.

The loss of big characters like Coady and Saiss appear to have really stung, so experienced players coming in in January is a must.

If Acuna does come in, it’s likely Ait-Nouri and Bueno’s game time will suffer.

That would be a shame, but Lopetegui needs to be backed.
