Pablo Sarabia may finally be the man to replace Diogo Jota at Wolves

Wolves are set to complete the signing of Pablo Sarabia this week from Paris Saint-Germain.

The club were only linked with the player last week. But it looks as though it is only a matter of time now before he is holding up the Wolves shirt.

Wolves have agreed a fee with PSG, thought to be somewhere around £4 million, as well as some add-ons.

It really is a remarkable piece of business Wolves are doing.

Sarabia is a top player. But he is currently a victim of playing second fiddle to three of the world’s best players.

Last season, he absolutely thrived playing on loan at Sporting CP.

In 45 appearances, he scored 21 goals and laid on 10 assists for teammates.

At Sevilla, he scored 43 goals and made 38 assists in 151 games.

His numbers at PSG are a little less impressive. He has 22 goals and 12 assists in 98 appearances. But he has found starts hard to come by, as most attacking players not named Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar also have.

His stints in Spain and Portugal were very good though.

Just on the face of it, Sarabia’s numbers seem to suggest he might finally be a replacement for Diogo Jota.

Jota could be inconsistent at times for Wolves.

But his numbers in terms of goals and assists were very respectable for Wanderers.

He bagged 44 goals in 131 games, and provided 19 assists.

For a wide forward, that’s a really good return. And since the star left to join Liverpool in 2020, Wanderers have not really been able to replace his goals and assists output.

Daniel Podence, Pedro Neto and Adama Traore – as talented as they all are – just haven’t produced the goods in the final third often enough.

And newer additions like Hwang Hee-chan and Goncalo Guedes have also not been as productive as fans hoped.

But Sarabia is arriving with a proven track record, and hopefully he’ll be the man to take on Jota’s mantle.

Pablo Sarabia under Julen Lopetegui at Wolves could be an amazing pairing

It looks as though Wolves will be announcing Sarabia soon, and it’s a really exciting signing.

Fans have been very frustrated over the past couple of years watching Wolves in the final third.

To have such a talented squad that produces so few goals has actually been incomprehensible sometimes.

Sarabia is clearly a player that makes things happen.

He’s experienced, versatile and intelligent, and Wolves may well finally be landing their replacement for Jota.

Given the price that’s being reported as well, he could also be the biggest bargain signing for Wolves since Joao Moutinho back in 2018.
