Some eagle-eyed Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters noticed there was no Owen Otasowie on the bench for the game against Liverpool last night.

The USA international was nowhere to be seen at Molineux, despite there being room for one more substitute, and it follows his omission from the squad against Aston Villa.

Otasowie’s last appearance for Wolves came against Manchester City just a few days before that clash with Villa.

Nuno Espirito Santo sent him on to replace Ruben Neves in the dying embers, and was unfortunately at fault for City’s third goal at the Etihad.

His attempt to dribble out of trouble was unsuccessful, with Riyad Mahrez slotting home to kill the game.

Prior to that appearance, Otasowie had not played since missing a golden chance against Brighton in the club’s first game of 2021.

His header was the last action that day at the Amex Stadium and would have secured Wolves the three points.

The handling of him has felt odd, and it could be that the talented 20-year-old may well be heading for a loan spell this summer.

Otasowie to depart?

Why Otasowie was not included in last night’s squad is currently a mystery.

Nuno has not yet shed any light on it, and there have been no reports of any injury.

It certainly seems like the manager doesn’t feel Otasowie is quite ready for the first-team, despite giving him very little chance to shine.

Yes he’s made a couple of errors, but his lack of game time to atone has been questionable.

Perhaps the plan is to send Otasowie out on loan this summer – if that’s the case, hopefully he can flourish wherever he ends up.
