One Wolves star is doing something only 2% of Premier League players have managed

Wolves are enjoying an impressive 2023/24 Premier League campaign, with one of Gary O’Neil’s stars ranking as one of the best in the league in one area.

Wolves dynamo Hwang Hee-chan is one of the reasons that Gary O’Neil’s side has already eclipsed the club’s complete 2022/23 Premier League goal tally after just 24 games.

In joining forces with Matheus Cunha, the Korean has already recorded his highest-scoring league season since arriving at Molineux in 2021 and is on course to set his highest-scoring tally in his domestic career.

Back in the 2016/17 Austrian Bundesliga, the 28-year-old scored 12 for RB Salzburg which resonates his best tally in a domestic league competition, a record he will surely smash this term.

Aside from his goals, the Korean has provided a versatile option for O’Neil to use in the front line, with his searing pace and “intelligent” style of play previously lauded by the boss.

What Hwang Hee-chan is doing better than most in the Premier League

Hwang isn’t just topping the charts at Wolves, currently sitting as the club’s joint top-scorer with Cunha with 11 goals, but is also ranking as one of the best in the Premier League in one area.

As highlighted by FBref, the Molineux star averages 0.75 goals per shot on target per 90 in the Premier League this season, placing him in the top 2% of forwards in this area.

The statistic communicates the lethal quality that Hwang possesses in front of goal, with his finishing ability very frequently ending with a goal when he administers a shot at the opposition.

To put into perspective just how efficient the striker’s numbers are this term, Erling Haaland averages 0.45 goals per shot on target per 90 this campaign, not bad for “the Korean guy” in comparison to Pep Guardiola’s talisman.

The return of Hwang Hee-chan will be celebrated at Wolves

Wolves will be eager to get Hwang back in their front line, with the South Korea international yet to feature in the Old Gold in 2024 due to his participation in the Asia Cup.

Despite being back from the tournament, Hwang did not feature last week due to a slight injury, which the boss has since cleared by sharing that his striker “should be fine.”

With Cunha’s fitness status not yet known, the re-introduction of the 28-year-old into the squad will be integral for O’Neil, who missed the presence of his strikers during last week’s loss to Brentford.
