Mikel Arteta’s previous Wolves comments suggest the players are the problem at Molineux

Wolves are gearing up to face the Premier League’s best, Arsenal, as they continue to search for a first win of the season.

It couldn’t get any tougher for Wolves and Rob Edwards after a disappointing start to his reign at Molineux. That’s now zero wins from four games and no signs of huge improvements.

Wolves have conceded a league-worst 33 goals and have scored just eight, highlighting the massive issues at the top and bottom.

Edwards has already had to call his players out on a couple of occasions, despite only being in charge for around a month.

After shipping four goals against Manchester United, the Wolves players are going to need to play out of their skins if they are to stop an Arsenal side that is second to Manchester City for goals scored.

Mikel Arteta’s comments about Vitor Pereira at Wolves

Mikel Arteta was very complimentary of Vitor Pereira the last time these two sides met.

This was prior to the game back in January of last year, which ended 1-0 to Arsenal.

The players are the real problem at Wolves… Thoughts?🤔

As we know, Vitor Pereira’s reign took a serious downturn towards the start of this season, as he was sacked towards the start of November.

Are the players the problem at Wolves?

Last season, Wolves had the likes of Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia to call upon. The three of them contributed to just under half of Wolves’ goals last season.

Since their departures, goals have been extremely hard to come by. Just eight goals in the Premier League, and the likes of Jhon Arias and Tolu Arokodare are yet to contribute.

There’s no doubting that Pereira’s style of play started to falter towards the end of his time at Wolves, but the players at his disposal are nowhere near good enough.

Look at Rob Edwards now. His philosophies and structure have made an immediate impact at Wolves when you look at the Aston Villa performance, but the players just aren’t delivering.

Edwards is still having to question the players about whether they’re scared and even ripped into their ‘kids’ performance against Manchester United. Just four games into his reign.
