Matt Hobbs summer transfer error made clear as former Wolves target wanted by Arsenal

Wolves must be cautious with the transfer targets they are frequently missing out in the market.

Right now, Wolves are working hard to sign two new players, as Vitor Pereira hopes to bolster his relegation-threatened squad.

The Old Gold suffered a transfer blow with Manu Silva, seeing Benfica hijack Wolves’ plan to recruit the highly-rated midfielder.

It was a narrow miss for the Premier League club, who return to the market with the hope of acquiring a new central defender and midfielder before the end of the month.

Arsenal interested in former Wolves target Mohamed Amoura

While Pereira is busy trying to recruit the next wave of Wolves stars in the January transfer window, it’s become clear that the Old Gold missed a treat with one former target.

Last summer, Wolves were linked to Mohamed Amoura, who at the time, was impressing in Belgium with Union Saint-Galloise.

Wolves actually enquired about Amoura however, the forwarded ended up signing for VfL Wolfsburg, where he’s since found great success.

The Bundesliga outfit paid €17m for Amoura, who is now rumoured to be worth a lot more, telling of the calibre of player Wolves missed out on.

A fresh report from Kicker has outlined Arsenal’s previous interest in the forward, who is now valued upwards of €40m by Wolfsburg.

Having contributed to 14 goals in only 16 Bundesliga appearances this season, Amoura is showing Wolves what they could’ve had if more attention had been paid to the Algerian in the summer.

Amoura was another transfer miss for Wolves

Wolves have failed to take advantage of several targets in the past, with many going on to become some of the top-performing players in Europe.

Arguably the Old Gold’s biggest miss of recent years was Viktor Gyokeres, who Wolves didn’t sign because Jeff Shi was not in the country to finalise the deal.

Matt Hobbs was criticised for Wolves’ summer transfer window but, not for those he missed out on but those who left the club, with the sporting director needing to do more on all fronts.

Greater care needs to be taken regarding the targets that Wolves are missing out on, with Amoura yet another example of a painful missed opportunity for the Midlands club.
