Mario Lemina wants Diego Costa to get a new deal at Wolves

Mario Lemina wants to see Diego Costa get a new deal at Wolves.

The striker finally opened his account for the club at the weekend against Brentford, scoring in the 2-0 win against Brentford.

Costa put in arguably his best display in a Wolves shirt to date.

He was fantastic holding up the ball and bringing others into play. He worked especially well with Matheus Cunha in the final third.

There was an element of luck about his goal. But he thoroughly deserved to score.

Costa has not scored as many goals as some would have liked.

But he has undoubtedly brought a lot to the table since his arrival at the club back in September.

By many accounts, Costa is a really popular figure in the dressing room and is hugely respected by his teammates.

And now, Lemina has called for the £50,000-a-week star to be handed a new deal at Molineux. He believes Costa still has Premier League defenders running scared.

He said (Express & Star): “I’ve just come in January and for me he’s a key player. I’m not a director, president or coach but he’s a massive, massive player for us.

“He’s a really hard worker. He gives us his experience every time on the pitch and speaks to us a lot.

“When you see the commitment he plays with he deserves this.

“We all know what he does in football. I think defenders, the opponent are scared of him.”

Diego Costa should probably get a new deal at Wolves, as Mario Lemina sings his praises

Even if Costa doesn’t score again for Wolves this season, he probably ought to be offered a new deal.

The star is clearly having a really positive impact on the dressing room.

Everyone talks about him in the highest terms, and Julen Lopetegui heaped praised on him after the game with Brentford. It would be no surprise if the manager has already had conversations with the board.

Surely there would be no harm in him being the club’s third-choice striker next season.

At the very least, he can give those ahead of him a push and increase morale and team spirit.
