Major transfer boost for Wolves as Liverpool now target £40m Rayan Ait-Nouri alternative

Wolves fans will fear the worst ahead of the summer, even if Vitor Pereira clinches Premier League survival this term.

A flood of transfer activity is anticipated as interest continues to increase in some of their best players, most notably Matheus Cunha.

In January, Cunha signed a new Wolves contract to keep him at Molineux until the summer by inserting a £62.5 million release clause in his contract.

The 25-year-old looks certain to depart as big clubs chase a transfer for Cunha, and he isn’t the only one catching the eye with his performances.

Wolves wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is being targeted by several clubs. The Algerian has transformed into one of the division’s best in his position.

Supporters will worry that the 23-year-old will join Cunha by jumping ship, although one club may have cooled their interest in him.

Liverpool want Milos Kerkez as a Rayan Ait-Nouri alternative

Liverpool have been linked with Ait-Nouri for a while. He’s been seen as a genuine contender to replace Andy Robertson at left-back, with Jamie Carragher lauding Ait-Nouri as ‘real quality’.

But, in a market that is saturated with brilliant wing-back options, the Reds also have their eyes on another target, and that is good news for Wolves.

According to The Telegraph, Arne Slot is interested in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who has caught the eye during the Cherries’ incredible campaign.

The 21-year-old has two goals and four assists to his name in the league and has been valued at upwards of £40 million.

Interestingly, Richard Hughes is responsible for the transfer activity at Liverpool, and he was working for Bournemouth when they signed Kerkez for £15 million in 2023.

Perhaps this could work in Slot’s favour when negotiating a deal for the Hungarian, while handing Wolves a boost in their hopes of keeping At-Nouri.

Hugo Bueno is a ready-made Ait-Nouri replacement

Although Pereira will want to keep one of his star talents, he also has to prepare for the possibility of him departing.

Fortunately for the Portuguese, there’s already a ready-made replacement waiting for Ait-Nouri, and that is Hugo Bueno.

Bueno is starring for Feyenoord in the Champions League, but the 22-year-old has shown the attacking threat and potential to replace the Algerian.

The Spaniard has four assists in 22 appearances this term and also ranks in the top 6% of defenders across Europe for progressive carries and the top 7% for successful take-ons, evincing his qualities going forward.

Bueno could save Wolves millions this summer if Ait-Nouri departs, and even if he doesn’t, he will be challenging for a starting place.
