Latest Rodrigo Gomes message for Vitor Pereira could spare Wolves transfer heartache

Wolves star Rodrigo Gomes sent a bold message to manager Vitor Pereira after his performance against Bristol City.

Wolves struck gold by signing Gomes in the summer, acquiring the 21-year-old from SC Braga.

Pereira is a big fan of Gomes, proving Gary O’Neil’s comments wrong, as the wide player continues to show his worth in the squad.

After scoring against Bristol City in the FA Cup, the Portuguese is full of confidence, as his latest message to the Wolves manager reinforces.

Rodrigo Gomes strengthens claim to Wolves starting XI

Wolves fans were impressed by Gomes’ performance against Bristol, describing the 21-year-old as the heir to Pedro Neto.

It’s praise indeed for the Portuguese, who despite being timid away from the action, is more than aware of what he can produce on the pitch.

The summer signing, who turned down Atletico Madrid to join Wolves, scored in style against the Robins, being a constant threat on the flank playing in the wing-back role.

Amid Nelson Semedo’s injury woes, Pereira has opted to start Gomes on the right, where he’s managed to mirror Rayan Ait-Nouri’s threat from the left side.

The young talent sent a subtle hint to his manager after the FA Cup win, informing Pereira of how much joy he finds in the position.

“I like that position because I have the pace and the lungs to do it,” Gomes told the media, via Express and Star.

“Last year at Estoril I played that position before and it’s a good position, I like it. It’s very good for me.”

Gomes is clearly more than qualified to play the wide role in the 3-4-2-1 formation, which comes as a resounding boost for Wolves’ future.

Gomes could be the true heir to Nelson Semedo

While Semedo nurses a hamstring injury, Gomes is keeping the space at right-wing-back well stocked, performing above and beyond the level expected of him.

The 21-year-old has a tireless energy in the position, which is a boost for Wolves considering what the future could hold for the role.

Semedo is out of contract in the summer of 2025, which could see the highly rated defender leave as a free agent if he is lured away from Molineux.

It’s understood that Wolves want to keep Semedo however, there’s yet to be an update on how contract talks are going between all parties.

Gomes’ form is almost insurance for Wolves, that even if they were to lose Semedo, a worthy replacement is waiting in line to fill the void.

At 21, Gomes is a player of real quality who could benefit Pereira for years to come, taking pressure away from the situation of Semedo’s expiring contract.
