Jorgen Strand Larsen just showed Rob Edwards how he should actually be used at Wolves

It has been a tough season for Jorgen Strand Larsen, with the Wolves striker dealing with an Achilles heel issue throughout much of the start of the campaign.

The form of the Old Gold certainly did not help when he was reintegrated back into the side, and with just one goal in nine Premier League matches, it is far from the form he showed last season that attracted serious interest from Newcastle.

Should Wolves have sold JSL to Newcastle in the summer?

That has seemed to affect his international appearances as well.

The Norwegian did not play against Estonia and against Italy on Sunday night; he was brought on with just one minute of the 90 remaining.

However, despite the limited time against the Italians, the Wolves striker did make an impact, and he might have shown his new club head coach how he should be used.

Jorgen Strand Larsen looked sharp after coming on against Italy, and with just four minutes of game time left when he was introduced, he managed to get himself a goal.

It was a well-taken finish for the Old Gold’s number nine, and it shows how Rob Edwards must use him at Wolves this season.

The Wanderers have been waiting for their star man to hit form, and the brief appearance on Sunday night could be the beginning of a turnaround for him.

The goal saw Strand Larsen running at defenders and facing towards the goal, rather than with his back to the net, and trying to link up with his other teammates.

It has not been a sight often seen for the Premier League club this season, and Edwards perhaps has a lesson to be learned.

Despite coming in at 6’4″, it is clear that Larsen offers a lot more going forward than simply being a physical presence against defenders.

Wolves need to get their frontman in similar positions in the Premier League, as he clearly has the talent to score quality goals like he has done with Norway.

If Edwards wants a striker to hold the ball up, playing Tolu Arokodare and Strand Larsen together could be a better solution.

It could be a strong duo that sees the Nigerian and Norwegian both being able to play off each other and opening gaps for either man to run at goal.

Jorgen Strand Larsen gives Rob Edwards boost ahead of Crystal Palace

Another positive from Jorgen Strand Larsen’s appearance for Norway is the fact he looked sharp, as mentioned before.

Rob Edwards being able to use the Norwegian, who looks to be closer to full fitness than he has been all season, will be a great boost ahead of his first game in charge.

The new head coach has a great record in his opening fixtures, and he’ll be hoping to leverage the confidence his star striker has certainly got from scoring for his nation.

However, Wolves fans are not confident about the next five games, with tough opposition awaiting Rob Edwards.
