Jonny might be worried as Wolves reportedly target Ivan Fresneda

Wolves are reportedly targeting Ivan Fresneda – and Jonny Castro Otto might be a worried man.

Reports in Spain are suggesting that Wanderers are one of several clubs across Europe hoping to sign the young right-back.

Fresneda has really caught the eye for his club Real Valladolid in recent times, and is now seemingly one of the most coveted players around.

The Spain U19 international is attracting attention from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are bound to be near the front of the queue.

But Wolves are said to be in the mix – and that could be bad news for Jonny.

Jonny has unfortunately really struggled for Wolves this season.

The former Atletico Madrid man has mainly played at right-back this term, but his level has been nowhere near what it was in his early days at Wolves.

We have regularly seen him struggle particularly against wingers with a greater turn of pace and strong dribbling ability.

His showing against Harvey Barnes in the 4-0 defeat to Leicester City was hard to watch.

Jonny used to be a player Wolves could rely on to give a 7/10 performance at the very least, every single game.

But it appears now that his two knee injuries might have caught up with the £15 million signing.

He doesn’t look anywhere near as mobile, he’s not offering anything going forwards and defensively he’s been all over the shop.

So now we have this transfer link to Jonny’s younger compatriot Fresneda. And it might be that Lopetegui sees the 18-year-old as better cover and competition for Nelson Semedo.

Right-back is definitely an area Wolves need to look at.

Both Jonny and Semedo have both struggled this season, but especially the former.

Jonny is 28 and Semedo is 29, and it feels like the position needs a younger contender.

By many accounts, Fresneda is the real deal. He is described by Football Talent Scout as a ‘complete full-back’. They add he’s an ‘intelligent full-back with good timing, positioning, and game reading ability’ and that he has ‘inexhaustible energy and stamina’.

Many clubs want him, so Wolves will have their work cut out.

But if Wanderers do somehow win the race for him, then it could be curtains for Jonny. Especially since Hugo Bueno has emerged as a new left-back option to compete with Rayan Ait-Nouri.
