Jeff Shi set to frustrate Wolves fans even more after setting a new target

Yes. Another Jeff Shi quote. The international break has offered little else to talk about concerning Wolves.

Jeff Shi’s sit-down with the Wolves YouTube channel offered many interesting glimpses into the thoughts and plans of Fosun.

He described a ‘good window’ at Wolves this summer, which is being kind.

Shi’s responses haven’t been all that pleasing to the ears of fans, and his answer to Wolves’ short-term ambitions doesn’t threaten to buck the trend.

Jeff Shi sets lofty goal for Wolves that seems out of touch

Fosun’s reign at Wolves has drawn criticism in recent times, but it wasn’t always like this.

The early years brought tremendous success. Returning to the Premier League, finishing 7th on two occasions, and playing in Europe.

Shi wants to get back to competing on the continent with Wolves.

He explains: “We want to compete in the league and we want to be strong, and if we can go back to Europe again, we want to. Of course.”

Any Wolves fan would agree on wanting to get back to Europe, but to make that statement without acknowledging the team’s current position is void of realism.

Wolves have lost each of their first three league games, and fans aren’t thinking about Europe. They’re thinking about the Championship.

Reaching European competition should be the goal, but the behaviour of Wolves in the transfer window is contradictory to this aim, and suggests this is simply placation from the chairman.

Wolves should learn a lesson from Crystal Palace according to Jeff Shi

Crystal Palace’s FA Cup run was a source of encouragement for those outside the ‘big club’ umbrella.

Oliver Glasner led Palace to a first-ever major trophy, beating Man City in convincing fashion.

Shi says: “Last season Palace won the FA Cup, and I think we should try to learn from them. So, back in Europe and some cup trophies, maybe it’s what we should try to think about.”

Shi looks at Palace’s achievement as a realistic goal, and while that may be a stretch, it’s less of a stretch than a top-eight finish at this moment in time.

But again, it reads less like ambition and more like a platitude to restless fans.
