It’s clear who Wolves’ most important player vs Brighton will be as £30m threat awaits

Wolves take on Brighton at Molineux this weekend, and there is one key battle in particular that could have a big bearing on the game.

Wolves will again try to get their first Premier League, having come so close to doing so last weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

Wanderers were seconds away from taking all three points down in north London.

But a last-gasp Joao Palhinha equaliser broke Wolves hearts.

As frustrating as it was to only take a point in the end, there were many reasons to be positive for Vitor Pereira and the players, and hopefully confidence will be high going into the game with Brighton.

But the Seagulls do often make life very difficult for Wolves.

Kaoru Mitoma could be a big threat for Brighton

The Japan international is often the player most neutrals first think about when it comes to Brighton, but Jackson Tchatchoua could be a decent counter to Mitoma.

But there’s another major threat in this Brighton team right now, making a good performance from Hugo Bueno absolutely essential.

Hugo Bueno has been arguably Wolves’ best player so far this season.

The Spaniard’s start to the new season has rather come as a bit of a surprise. Certainly, his level of involvement has after the club signed David Moller Wolfe.

But Bueno has been so positive, and now finds himself having played the second-highest number of minutes for Wolves after Emmanuel Agbadou.

Bueno has shone mainly as an outlet for Wolves, creating a number of chances from that left side.

Data has shown that Bueno has actually been more creative than Rayan Ait-Nouri so far this season in terms of shot-creating actions.

He’s also been fairly solid defensively – but he will be sternly tested this weekend, because the likelihood is that he’ll be coming up against Yankuba Minteh.

Minteh has arguably been one of Brighton’s best players this season.

He may only have one goal and two assists in six appearances – which is still fairly impressive – but Minteh really has been a handful for defenders this term.

Ominously for Bueno, according to Squawka, Minteh has the highest dribbling success rate of any Premier League player to attempt 10+ take-ons so far this season with 73.68% (14/19).

He is also the number one ranked player in the Brighton squad in terms of average match rating on WhoScored, and by some distance. He’s averaged 7.32, with Mats Wieffer the next highest with 6.83.

Vitor Pereira must form anti-Minteh plan

This game could well hinge on who comes out on top between Bueno and Minteh.

The Wolves man has done really well so far, but this will be big test for him and he will potentially need some help against the explosive £30 million (BBC Sport) Gambian.

Ladislav Krejci is likely to be playing to Bueno’s right, and the Czech international may well need to get out wide at times to help out.

If Pereira has set up with two banks for four, then the manager will also need whoever is playing left wing to track back and double up with Bueno on Minteh.

That player could either be Hwang Hee-chan, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde or Jhon Arias.
