It is clear who is to blame as Wolves let lead slip again in Brighton draw

Another disaster struck Wolves with minutes left on the clock.

Jan Paul van Hecke’s 86th-minute equaliser added to last week’s heartbreak against Tottenham. Wolves are still without a win.

Vitor Pereira was sent off after venting his frustrations about Carlos Baleba a little too aggressively in the eyes of Jarred Gillett.

Despite the red, fans chanted for Pereira after scoring the opening goal. However, they might not have done so if they knew what was to come.

While he was in the stands, there is no doubt that Vitor Pereira was still influencing proceedings on the pitch, and the Portuguese head coach got it all very wrong in the second half.

In the final 45 minutes, Wolves were second best; Brighton were the team piling all the pressure on.

Jhon Arias had a good moment to put the Old Gold further ahead, but his point-blank miss would end up being more important than expected.

Jorgen Strand Larsen would also rifle a chance off the crossbar.

Other than that, there is not much else to highlight from an attacking perspective.

Instead of trying to relieve the pressure from his side, Pereira opted to enhance it. He switched to a back five and took off attacking players for defensive ones.

Hwang Hee-chan was taken off for Emmanuel Agbadou after an hour, and Jorgen Strand Larsen was replaced by Jean Ricner-Bellegarde 15 minutes later.

The performance of Hwang did not warrant him playing 60 minutes, which was another issue throughout the match.

Wolves had no outlet up top to collect long balls and clearances. After Strand Larsen left the pitch, the Wanderers did not have another shot at goal.

After conceding, Tolu Arokodare came on in the 90th minute, but it was far too late. Vitor Pereira made a huge error with his in-game management against Brighton, and hopefully it will be the last time he does so.

Vitor Pereira has learned an important lesson

You cannot rest on your laurels in the Premier League, and Vitor Pereira will be well aware of that after losing a lead late on in back-to-back games.

The substitutes changed the game in all the wrong ways. The Old Gold lost any threat up top, and Brighton could keep pushing forward without any real worry of effective counters by the home side.

The switch to a back five was made way too early, and Wolves could still have pushed for a second goal.

Last week, Pereira’s side were unfortunate to concede so late on. This week, that late equaliser is on the head coach.
