Wolves are back at Molineux to take on Leeds United on Saturday – and Hwang Hee-chan might well be in with a good chance to start.
Wolves are looking to bounce back from the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United.
It was a real setback for Wanderers after the great win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Wolves didn’t really deserve anything from the game against the Magpies, despite there being a very controversial decision not to award a penalty for Nick Pope’s challenge on Raul Jimenez.
One of the biggest positives for Wolves against Newcastle – not that there were many – was Hwang returning.
The South Korea has been on the sidelines for the past few weeks with hamstring injury.
The star made an instant impact for Julen Lopetegui, pouncing on a loose ball after a slip from Kieran Trippier.
It was perhaps the easiest goal he’ll ever score, but he was in there anticipating a potential chance.
The goal will have done him the world of good. He had not scored in the Premier League since the game game against Arsenal in February 2022.
Potentially, he might just have staked a real claim to start against Leeds this weekend.
Hwang Hee-chan could start for Wolves against Leeds
Hwang made an instant impact for Wolves against Newcastle and it’s great he’s now back in the picture.
The £14 million star may not be a prolific goalscorer.
But Lopetegui likes what he brings to the table in terms of his work rate and physicality.
It’s possible he will be full of confidence after his goal against the Magpies.
Generally, Hwang has been much improved in a Wolves shirt under Lopetegui since he came back from the World Cup.
He actually did quite well leading the line for Wolves against Leeds in the reverse fixture, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the 27-year-old got the nod.
