He joined Wolves to further his career but Gary O’Neil won’t start him in the Premier League

One Wolves ace is likely to already be regretting his decision to move to Molineux amid struggles for playing time.

Wolves brought eight new first-team players to the club during the 2024 summer transfer window as they aimed to improve on their 14th-place finish from the campaign prior.

The majority of those additions have had an almost instant impact at the Molineux Stadium.

Danny Murphy has previously praised Wolves star Andre, who was the club’s most expensive signing of the summer window.

Elsewhere, Ian Wright praised Jorgen Strand Larsen recently, believing the striker has made a big difference at Wolves in the current season after his loan move from Celta de Vigo.

At the other end of the pitch, former goalkeeper Ben Foster raved over Sam Johnstone’s save for Wolves vs Liverpool earlier this month.

However, while some of the Old Gold’s new additions are playing well despite the club’s overall form, at least one player is likely to regret his summer move.

Tommy Doyle struggling for game time at Wolves

Tommy Doyle first made the move to Wolves in the 2023/24 campaign, joining on loan from Manchester City.

The midfielder made 26 Premier League appearances that term, with Doyle dubbed ‘outrageous’ earlier this year.

After a successful loan spell, it is easy to see why the Englishman opted to leave Man City on a permanent basis and sign for Wolves in the most recent transfer window.

However, Doyle is now likely regretting his summer transfer decision amid his serious struggles for any sort of meaningful game time.

The 23-year-old has started two Carabao Cup games for Wolves in 2024/25 but in the Premier League, where he really wants to play, Gary O’Neil is refusing to start him.

The Wolves manager has afforded Doyle just 110 minutes of action across six league appearances, with no outing lasting longer than 45 minutes.

After failing to break in under Pep Guardiola, it is clear Doyle believed a permanent move to the Midlands would help him play more regularly and further his career. But so far, it has proven to be a big mistake.

What Tommy Doyle said about lack of minutes for Wolves

While some players who are kept out of the team stay quiet, the former City gem has not been shy about letting his feelings be known.

Doyle has been left ‘disappointed’ by his game time in 2024/25 but ensured he will keep giving everything.

He said: “You can always improve, whether that’s me speaking now or speaking in 10 years, I know the level I can get to, so that’s why I work every day.

“Minutes have been varied and obviously that’s disappointing, but that’s part of being a footballer.

“You might not always get what you want, so you have to make sure that every single day you give everything to make sure you get into the team.”

Wolves are next in action against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday and Doyle will surely be desperate to start.

O’Neil is still searching for his first league victory of 2024/25 and it is about time he changed things up and handed Doyle a chance.

Should he continue to be left out, however, the midfielder may well look for another transfer in the near future as he is at a pivotal point of his career in terms of development.
