One Wolves youngster could be in line to get a significant boost amid Vitor Pereira’s transfer nightmare.
As Wolves continue to battle for Premier League survival, there’s a lot of noise happening at Molineux on the transfer front.
Following the Old Gold’s defeat to Newcastle United, manager Pereira confirmed that Mario Lemina refused to play as the midfielder pushes for a transfer.
Pereira’s former club Al-Shabab have made an offer for Lemina, whose Molineux exit is all but certain in what has been a surprise twist in 2024/25.

Tawanda Chirewa could get a chance to impress amid Mario Lemina transfer
Pereira wants to make two more signings before the end of the January transfer window, with the chances of Wolves hiring a new midfielder increasing.
As well as Lemina’s future being in doubt, Tommy Doyle has also received transfer interest, putting pressure on Pereira to recruit promptly.
While the situation in midfield remains unclear, Wolves could be in a strong position to capitalise on one player’s recent failures in a shock twist.
Tawanda Chirewa just returned from his loan spell at Derby County, where the 21-year-old struggled to make a real impact.
It was a surprising outcome for Chirewa, who was backed to be in Wolves’ first team based on his performances over the 2023/24 season.
Gary O’Neil previously utilised the attacking midfielder in a deeper role, which was a boost for Wolves last term and now, could be another boost this year.
Chirewa was guided by Lemina during his come-up at Molineux and the youngster could now use what he learned to replace the Gabon international.
Considering that Wolves have been criticised for not utilising young players, Chirewa’s return could just be the answer to the Old Gold’s pending depth problem.
Gary O’Neil was a fan of Chirewa
Chirewa failed at Derby but, made a real impact at Wolves last season, most notably shining against Arsenal at Molineux.
O’Neil was responsible for giving the midfielder a chance in the Premier League, with the former manager’s comments on the player very telling of his quality.
O’Neil praised Chirewa after calling him into action in the FA Cup against Brentford, relaying the trust he had in the rising star.
“Tawanda has shown enough to me in training and I was comfortable putting him on the pitch in an incredibly important moment in the game.
“I’m pleased for him and know the lads were pleased for him to get his debut. It’s a big achievement getting a debut in a team and squad as talented as this when you’re a young lad coming through the academy. I’m pleased for him.”
Only time will tell what the next steps are for Chirewa this season, as the midfielder returned to the U21 squad following his loan.
